Texas JAM! Back in the day when general admission at rock festivals meant no such thing as a sell-out. ACL fest is capped at 75K or something, sold out months in advance.

MaryS80 - Most of my friends growing up also received reduced price / free TI computers (seemed like they employed everyone in the area), way before they were common in the home. I think we got ours when I was 9.. it was a huge advantage that has shaped my life though today. That was an amazing thing TI did, I wonder if anyone has ever studied what effect that had.
I hope they have an idea at least. It's amazing how such a simple act as handing out educational toys and computers has an impact even a quarter of a century later. Hopefully they still do that for their employees.

It really gave those of us that were children of employees a huge head start on technology.

How bout do you remember when.........Northpark was a field? Royal lane was a two lane blacktop?....LBJ was a "proposed highway" ? There was a Spring Valley Country Club?.... Pluto was a planet?..Well I do. I love this site, it brings back great memories.
I remember all those places, well I never went to Pluto but....
There was a Fed-mart at Marsh and Forest. Also a 7-11. Was it Park Forest theater?
Oh yea, and Southwest Airline flight attendants, wore HOT PANTS.
But that's for another forum....lol

Default Eyewitness Newsreel

Earlier, I had mentioned Dennis Monson. Back when Channel 4 had Eyewitness News, there was a nightly segment entitled "Eyewitness Newsreel" which he featured, and Monson did a clip of Field Day at my elementary school. I think I was in fourth or fifth grade when this happened, but it made it to the air and I watched it that night. I think I do remember seeing the Channel 4 truck on the campus, and I believe that's how I found out we would be on the news.

Oh Yes, the Texas Jam. Those were a BLAST! For a couple of years there RUSH was the headliner. One year when Ozzy was at the Jam the sound system somehow went out when he came on. Got fixed in time for the next performer . You had to go outside of the Cotton Bowl to buy beer. I think everyone went for their beer run during Ozzy too. Concerts today are nothing like they were back then. DH went to a recent concert at Smirnoff and said it was funny how the demographics have changed. Everyone there was middle-aged - even though I still don't consider us "middle-age" .

........... the place we call the Zoo.........
Ran across this while looking for something - For those left in the unknown this will give you an idea of what we are all talking about concerning the radio stations. The GOOD ones as radio in The Big D bites nowadays

And someone has remade Zoo stickers and selling them:

Another person has CD's for sale of the actual songs/albums that were cut in the KZEW studios. This is COOL!!!

The "smoking section" at Lake Highlands HS - another blast from the past when we actually had smoking sections in the schools.

Bills Records and Tapes is now south of downtown although most of his business is done over the internet. Bills Records - Dallas, Texas

I remember the smoking section at my high school, too, but since I was on drill team I wasn't allowed to hang out there.

Remember Renner, TX? Or that bar called Tijuana's something at Lovers and Greenville that had the major free food with Happy Hour? Or the nightclub Arthurs when it was in the Gold Towers? Or the 50s club called Studabakers?

I went to the second Texas Jam. It was hot as I recall. We climbed up the cotton bowl to the seats in the shade and cooled off. The view was better up there, not for the acts, but for the overall view.
I wouldn't even think about going to the cotton bowl now in July, if it was to see the Stones for free!!!!
I had a zoo sticker for years, still had the backing on it, was never stuck on anything. Somewhere in a move I guess it got lost or tossed.
I listened to the Zoo all the time. I recorded that live concert by Peter Frampton also, but I had just purchased, at great expense to a teenager, a Realistic 8 track recorder.
I recorded alot of stuff off the Zoo. Seems like they played the new music first. I had Ted Nugent's strangle hold on the same tape as Frampton. Kinda early friday night cruising Forest lane music mix....lol
Now I seem to be the last on my block to have HDTV, but I was cutting edge in 72.

Default Memories of "The Good Ole' Days" @ KDFW

I remember those days..........Judd Hambrick was "the total package" and in the years since I last actually saw him anchor the news, I have never seen anyone who could come close to him as far as delivery, technique and style were concerned, to top it all off..........he was, and I'm sure still is, the best looking anchorman I have EVER seen and a really nice guy to boot (for those of us lucky enough to have known him!). His induction into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1998 was well deserved. Here's a brain teaser for ya'.........
does any one remember JACK GALLAGHER who anchored the weekend news @ KDFW during and after the time Judd Hambrick was there?

Tijuana Yacht Club, yes! One of my classmates was the manager. Boy did they have the food, nobody went hungry in the 80s happy hours. Remember In Cahoots?

JVTX, Club A was Confetti before that and the previous incarnation was "Cowboy" - I also think it was called something electric company before that (before my time) and it was near the site of the legendary Lou-Ann's from the 30s,40s, 50s and into the 60s.

And the STARCK was a once-in-a-lifetime Dallas event!
