Default Visiting Labor Day Weekend

I have been feeling an itch to move to Dallas since last September. I live in the southeast near Atlanta, and have been wanting a change in life and also find the next step in my career. I haven't really looked for a job yet, but feel optimistic about finding work there. I'm early 30s married with a pre-K child.

Dallas seems to have what I'm looking for except for the insane summers I've been reading about

In order to get a good feel for the area, would it be a good idea to get a hotel near the Galleria? I plan to rent a car and drive around to get a feel for the city. I also plan to drive through a couple of suburbs like Plano and Carrollton.

What is your housing budget? The Galleria is fine if you're going to be staying north. There are more fun places south, if its in your price range.

How about the Doubletree Hotel at Northwest Highway and Central Expressway? That's relatively inexpensive and centrally located.

Considering the fact that you wanna drive through carrollton and plano, i think the galleria area is more central. Since your renting a car it would be pretty easy and quick to hop on the tollway and be down town in minutes.

Nice

Housing budget would be between $175-$250k if we moved. I would definitely do an apartment for a year first.

Thank you for the advice on areas to stay during the visit.

My wife knows nothing about TX except that oil is there. lol. I told her that Texans are very proud of their state, and that "everything is bigger and better in TX according to them." We both like the enthusiastic culture. We both enjoy outdoor tanning so may welcome the near-year-round sun.

I really hope to fall in love with the area and to begin planning our next chapter of life in Dallas.

There are several cites in North Texas that can meet your budget and lifestyle, but I think it's just as important to map out where you want to work before looking at which cities to live in, DFW is BIG, and commute times are generally not as small as one would assume.
