Did anyone else see this one?

The newcomers were looking at three houses, (1) a new build 3-story in downtown Dallas at $399k, (2) one in Keller that was close to their friends, and (3) a real older build at $345 in Southlake.

The guy's job was in downtown Dallas and from the first home he could actually see his office building from it. The one in Keller was priced somewhere in the middle of the other two and their sole reason for considering Keller was strictly because their friends lived there. And the one in Southlake, just wow... you should have heard the RE agent telling them what a short commute he'd have from there to downtown Dallas... from Southlake??? Hmmm, guess it might be, compared to Keller, though.

Guess which one they chose? The Keller one... how long do you think that will last with him making that daily commute?

Truly unbelievable!
Reminds me of several other threads here from other new peeps moving to a location because their friends/family live there, no matter where they'll be working... a recipe for disaster on so many levels!

Ouch! Well, if it makes you feel better, by the time HGTV comes to film, the buyer is already under contract/ closing/ closed on the house they pick. The other 2 homes they "decide" between aren't even homes they looked at, they're just selected for good tv. So this couple probably had never looked at any homes in Dallas at all and were already set on Keller before HGTV got involved.

That is a very old one. The wife an I saw that about 6 months ago. All we could think of is who wears the pants in that family...

yes--that was replay from couple of months--
I posted about it on the FTW thread and was definitely sorry for the dad making that drive and only going to get worse--
wife was really insecure and I wonder how glad that family is that they are living so close--very clingy I thought

what was the real giveaway that it was so staged was that the realtor could only find them such bad examples of homes in their price range--
any one of us on the Board could have done a way-better job than she did

I'm sorry I missed that one. I would have loved to see where they bought in Keller.

I'm watching it right now, lol. The Keller house is butt ugly, can't believe that's all they could find.

Elan, I agree. They could have found something nicer in Keller for $250,000. However, it seemed like the wife was dead set on living near her friend. Clingy for sure. I imagine the husband is cursing the day he made that purchase.

Coppell would have been a better compromise if they pushed their budget up to about $350,000. There's no way I'd ask my husband to drive that far on a daily basis just so I can be close to my friend. Bad move........

The Southlake house did need updates, but it had a HUGE lot and was SO cheap compared to everything else in town. They missed a real "diamond in the rough" with that one.

I cannot imagine her poor husband's commute to downtown Dallas from Keller every day. I certainly wouldn't want to be in his shoes...

My hubby doesn't watch the show at all, but watched that with me since it was Dallas based. His comment was similar to above, but not quite as nicely stated

That commute has to bite.
