your observations were spot on - and as with your experience, while visiting in the Lewisville DMV, I too had a little issue/delay there, due to an out-of-state title queston.... and just as you noted, they told me to bypass the line and go directly back to the clerk upon my return...

another observation to add to your list, perhaps....

Grand scale dr, dentist, lawyer, accountant and vet offices - while I like how they make you feel at home via the rustic timber and leather/iron decor, I can't help wondering how they pay for it all.... in the midwest, northeast and even down in NC/GA/TN, I have never seen any professional services office like these...

Thx ROckjaw - you are spot on with your services offices comment. That made me laugh... we just went to our first dentist appointment, and my wife and I were floored at how nice the dental office was. We thought we walked into a spa in Napa Valley or something. Actually, it was nicer than some spas we'd been to in Napa.

I love your post about Southern Hospitality. Seattle people are shy and socially awkward which makes them come across as not being that friendly. So it would be great to live in a place with some Southern Hospitality. I could sure go for some of that.

Most of these are Office Condos. And with no income tax in Texas, lower franchise taxes, and much better Tort laws, they can be pretty nice.

We're still in New England, but are gathering the info for most likely moving down to TX (Westlake area). I have a random question. Tornados - if a house doesn't have a basement, what do you do? Crossed my mind since we got the ground jiggle yesterday, now looking to get wet and windy with Irene - guess you can never be too prepared

Bathtub, closet...basically put as many walls between yourself and the tornado as possible, and preferably put yourself next to plumbing. Cover yourself with a heavy quilt or mattress, and cross your fingers.

Odds are you'll never even see a tornado, much less be hit by one.

Thanks! - considering all the mother nature events up here this summer (tornados that took out several towns, even feeling the tremors of an earthquake, and (we were due for one) hurricane on the horizon seems like the unprobable, I don't think I will be saying it'll never happen here. I'll cross my fingers for you down there that the heat and drought end soon!
