home appreciation in Wilmer, Hutchins and Oville
I just had a look at a website that rated the suburbs on different issue and home appreciation was through the roof in Wilmer (27.3%), Hutchins (23.2%) and Oville (12.5%). Carrollton where I'm thinking of buying is a fairly average 3.4%. So what's going on in these three places? They seem to be south of Dallas where I was told not to bother looking. Is there some major development there or is this just a glitch in the statistics?

I'd say there was a glitch or something. Although taking everything into consideration there really was nowhere to go but up Then again some of that could be artificial inflation in hopes of attracting more retail/commercial/industry w/ some some of the other large industrial developments going on out that way. You have to take into consideration this area is where the Dallas landfill is located along w/ the city auto pound (talk about culture shock for some North Dallasites if they ever have to go get their car out of the pound) and several large freight transport centers are located (one REALLY large one for containers coming in off of ships from Houston is located out this direction) along w/ a prison in Seagoville. There are also MANY very low lying areas out this way and flooding can be an issue. Not too much in the areas developed as there are not may but in the areas that are not it does.

Let's put it this way the Wilmer Hutchins ISD was so bad the state had to step in and dismantle it.

If you had to choose between those three places, you may want to pick Ovilla.

Wilmer-Hutchins ran out of money in 2005 and could no longer operate. DISD agreed to pick up the students because of the Union Pacific Terminal being built in WHISD. WHISD was formally dismantled in 2006, and DISD now has the former WHISD area.
DISD closed all of the WHISD campuses. Hopefully DISD will build new schools after a bond proposal is passed.

There is WAY MORE to it than just them running out of money. School board fights, money problems, failing grades, schools falling apart and down on top of the students, state investigations.................. (SEVERAL state investigations)
Unless one was here in the Dallas area during all of this and heard it nightly on the news for years on end it would be hard for an outsider or newcomer to be aware of all of the problems in that area.

Don't foget TAKS cheating in Wilmer Hutchins. Remember when Wilmer Hutchins Elementary was ranked the #1 school in the area even above Highland Park schools. They had "perfect" TAKS scores.....not. And it was teacher-led cheating.

teacher-led also = administration-led
Forgot about that. LOL!!! Remember the pictures of the schools on the inside and the shape of them? YIKES! Yet the board members drove new Cadillacs
