Which is best city to live in around Richardson, TX?
Hi! We are transferring from Minneapolis to Richardson, Tx for work, and need help finding a good neighborhood as we have never been to Texas.
We have no children so schools are not an issue, but we want a safe nice neighborhood close to work. Richardson is the location of the office.
We want to stay under $200,000. Online it's a bit tough to tell how far away other areas are, we have been looking in Rowlett and Garland. We would like to live near a nice area to walk, like by a lake or park. Also are any areas lower in prop tax than in others?
Thanks in advance for all help!
Lulu

Richardson, TX
Actually, Richardson is a city within the DFW area.
The houses are older and tend to be more grand than the newer areas like Plano, Frisco, McKinney, etc. The areas near Campbell and Preston are all nice. Anyplace near UTD is nice. I haven't seen any bad areas in Richardson. The population is pretty much homogenous in terms of ethnicity (think Dubya). If this is not a problem, then Richardson is a good place. There are GREAT outlets just North of Richardson in Allen. Richardson and Allen are considered Northeast in the DFW.
I hope this helps.

Hi, I live out in the country from the richardson area and if you haven't searched the McKinney area you should. there are alot of new developments going up and McKinney also has a Historical district that has a wonderful choice of restraunts as well as shopping and still close to everything that you need. Lots of nice areas. Beware the commute up Rt 75 - getting to be a not so nice commute with all the suburbs to the north of Richardson. Can get to be 30-40-50 minutes depending how far north you look. Lots of good housing in Richardson in newer areas, in Garland, Wylie, Plano, North Dallas.
There are 3 million people in the Dallas -Ft Worth area, and over half million in the north suburbs from Richardson north/east/west within 20 miles or so.
Lots of choices. YOu really need to come down, look, get a good realator, and decide what you need in a house, what you are willing to afford, and how far you want to drive to work.
Rent for a month or two or three if you are not sure.

Why not stay in Richardson? Be close to work and have easy access to most of Dallas. It sounds like you would like the Richarson Heights area. Cute older homes with lots of trees and several parks close by.

Not too far from Richardson is Breckenridge Park - it is HUGE. There are alot of nice homes along the park. It would be a nice place for you to live and have a place to walk nearby, plus really close to your work.
