We've just closed on a lot in Cedar Hill and are looking into builders to serve as a general contractor. We've created our own blueprints (which we're open to their feedback of course) and are looking for a fairly modern house with rustic elements (integrating some wood and stone throughout).

Any suggestions of custom builders/GCs that you've worked with that you would recommend? Hard to find good sources for recommended builders - Angie's List doesn't have much.

Appreciate any recommendations - as well as warnings.

Thanks all!

Remember to send the warnings in a DM. Due to liability issues, consumer complaints are not allowed to be posted openly.

Suggestion, if your neighbors have custom homes, walk the neighborhood, knock on some doors and ask questions. You'll kill 2 birds; learn about the builders and meet your new neighbors. If they invite you in you'll see the build out. You can go to the Dallas County CAD to see what appraised values are.

Several of the top builders in DFW have a "build on your lot" program. David Weekley is one as well as Sandlin, both good ones. If you are looking to build an executive estate 1 mil or more, Avigon and Venetian are 2 others that are very good.
