I stay in Plano and have started with my car hunting. But the main roadblock i have as of now is that since i don't have a car and if i get to see a good deal on craigslist etc, i cannot go to see the car because of lack of any sort of conveyance. Hence to assist me in this car buying period, i am seeking to rent a car to use on weekly basis per se which i can take to office and also use it to go to different places to check out the cars.
Can anyone suggest me places where i can get car on rent for a week or month ??
I would prefer some place near Plano.

Alamo is offering some great deals on weekend rentals - $20/day or $15/day if you are an insider. That is available at DAL and may be available at neighborhood locations.

This morning, I was able to book an 8 day rental in Dallas for $118 including all taxes, down from the $224 I booked last week.

Enterprise offers a lot of $9.99/ weekend day rentals BUT there is generally a 100-150 mile per day limit. The good part about Alamo is that they deliver the car to you.

Hertz will rent you a mid-sized car on a one month mini-lease for $495/ month and that generally includes insurance.

Hope that helps.

(And Enterprise will match any offer from other companies if you show them a written offer.)

My wife read my response and she brought up two caveats.

First, in order to rent a car, you have to meet the age limits (usually 21-25) and you have to have a relatively clean driving record (no reckless driving or DWI convictions recently.

Second, you need to consider insurance on the vehicle. It MAY be covered if you have coverage on another vehicle.

^^This is the main problem it seems. I DO NOT hold a Texas Driving license yet. I have come to USA just about 2 months back. I plan on getting a car first and then getting the permit.
How to go about ?
How much will it cost me if i get a car for the weekend, inclusive everything.

I don't think you are able to rent a car without a drivers license.

No driver's license, no car rental.

UNLESS you hold one in your home country.

I suggest that you contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

Call Enterprise or Hertz (look in Yellow pages for local numbers) and ask them about your license. Foreigners rent cars here whilst on vacation so there should be no problem - just as I rented cars in Europe on my USA license.
