My wife and I were remarking at how lucky we are to live EXACTLY where we want to live here in the DFW area.

This came on the heels of a conversation about a lawyer friend of ours who lives close to downtown and was thinking about moving up north but then postponed his search when he realized real estate up here wasn't as cheap as he thought.

So my pal Jonathan is waiting a few more years and saving to get exactly what he wants.

Where would y'all live in the DFW area if there were no barriers (money, school systems, commute, etc)?

If money were free-flowing and kids didn't need schools at all, I'd definitely pick a nice 1+ acre site in Bluffview (75209) on one of the winding, no curbs, country-lane looking streets. This site would hopefully have an original 1920-1940's cottage on it that is ripe for a remodel

If in fantasy world, kids do have to go to school, I'd buy any one of my long-running list of "favorite" homes in HPISD

Coke dealer modern house in Preston Hollow off Midway. All windows, all white, pimped out pool and parking alcove. Course the kids would be isolated.

like where we live now (not Dallas proper but in the Mid-Cities area) but things I can't control (like my daughter living in FL with her husband, some neighbors and the bylaws in our HOA) are what I would want changed...unfortunately can't do much about either one right now although we are working on the bylaws...
and you never know how the neighbors in any area are actually going to work out...

Actually, I live exactly where I want to, the Russell Creek Park area of Plano. The only other place I would also like living is Las Collinas and Hackberry Creek in Irving.

I would either live in a nice, tucked away 'compound' in Preston Hollow - or a big, beautiful house with LOTS of windows off of White Rock Lake.

No it's more an 80's modern, stark, open spaces, tons of light- think the apartment fro, American Psycho...and of course decorated with lithographs from Denton's own Robert Longo.
