Hi everyone,
I've got a job near DFW airport and trying to work out the best place to live. I'm a single, young professional, moving from London so I don't know too many people. I want to be within a half an hour commute if possible. From what I've read, Uptown sounds the best but I'm not sure if the commute is ok?? I've also have heard Las Colinas or Grapevine could be good options - but I don't want to be bored. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Uptown is the best option by far. It's about 30 minutes to DFW from there.

I've lived next to Uptown and commuted to near DFW. The usual traffic is headed towards downtown, so the rush outbound is not so bad. Usually took something like about 20 minutes. Traffic is lead, follow, or get out of the way. If you want to check the route on a google map, search the postal zip code 75219 (Oak Lawn and some of Uptown), then find Oak Lawn Ave, the most suitable entrance/exit to I-35 for this area. On occasion, in the evening return, the downtown traffic would be delayed blocking the southbound Oak Lawn exit from I-35. You'd need to exit one exit earlier at Inwood. With some practice you can figure that out.

You say near DFW. There are two entrances to DFW, one on the south and one north. So, which is near your location? I ask as from Oak Lawn Ave, you have a break off to Highway 183. If south then 183 would take you that direction. If north towards Grapevine then you have another break off to Highway 114, to the north.

Las Colinas is a fairly cool place for singles, with a few bars and dining. It's a cool place for afterwork hang outs. Grapevine is more family oriented but is not a bad choice.

Uptown. Don't even mess with the other two- Grapevine is family-central and Las Colinas will be boring after a week. Uptown meets your commute criteria and is the only part of town that will remotely resemble where you are moving from in terms of population density, ease of walkability, lots of things to do, etc.

Dallas will not compare to London. I recommend staying in London. Many people move to Dallas and find that it's not like where they came from and don't like it. And, who would want to leave London anyway?

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll be working in postal zip code 76155 if that helps. Looks like i'll check-out the Oak Lawn area first and then maybe Las Colinas. I've heard there is a lot of construction going on, so was just wondering if that would effect the commute much.

76155, Looks like the south end of DFW.

From Oak Lawn or Uptown, you'd take I-35 north and break off onto Hwy 183 going west.
From Las Colinas, you'd take 114 south a bit then onto 183 (or other options).

Being a major artery between Fort Worth - DFW - Dallas, highway 183 will be busy anytime, any direction.

Yes, 183 is busy all the time, even during the middle of the night. Since you'll be on that south end of the airport, either Oak Lawn or Las Colinas would work for you.

I'd look in at Las Colinas. Some nice apartments along West Royal Ln near Kim West. You would be between Highways 114 and 183 and have a short commute.

I'd say Oak Lawn/Uptown and then Las Colinas as a #2 choice if the commute from Uptown is too far for you. See both areas before you decide.
