I've got several people who have repped me already on my last post that would beg to differ.

My opinion was given to the OP. And, you may note, we all gave very similar advice, except for you. The reason for that is, we are trying to be helpful to the OP, NOT promote our own towns. (For the record, I work in Plano and live in Mckinney, and there are a LOT of houses that meet the OP's criteria in Stonebridge Ranch, while being closer to their work than Prosper, closer to shopping and restaurants than Prosper...) Sigh. Sucked in again.
I completely agree with you with all you've said here. But I have to play devils advocate for a second..Why doesn't Prosper work? I mean yes, Frisco is better because it's before Prosper, I even like McKinney better for alot of reasons; but the commute to Plano from Prosper isn't that bad when I did it. 30 minutes or so tops.
I do agree that Crew needs to diversify his opinion a bit, but in this case I think Prosper could actually be a viable option for the OP. No tomatoes please.
No tomatoes here. You are right, Prosper could be a viable option... IF the OP couldn't find something they liked in Plano, Frisco, Allen, Mckinney...
Why list Prosper after the first two or three towns? With the hundreds of choices available that are clearly better for a variety of reasons, Prosper shouldn't even enter the conversation, unless the OP came on here and said "I really hate Plano and Frisco, but I work there and need to find a place to live close by but definitely NOT these cities!"
"Why list Prosper after the first two or three towns "
Why not list it if it offers something different than the other 3? Once again, not everyone loves what Frisco,Plano and Mc Kinney offer.I have found that many people in our community chose Prosper over other areas due to the "feel of the area".Alot of people must agree because it is growing faster than any other spot in Collin county. It may night be for everyone and does not offer many homes in lower price ranges.I openly admit that.If someone wants a newer home for under $200,000 they will find that in Frisco,Allen,Plano and Mc Kinney ,not Prosper.Heck you can get a newer home for under $180,000 in those areas. That is a great thing and I never tried to state that Prosper offers that....
It takes alot to conjure indignant feelings over a city data forum post. I am fine with any comments challenging my Prosper boasting. If someone works in Collin county or even north Dallas off the tollway Prosper is a reasonable option.I have not suggested Prosper for people working out of that realm.I have compared why we did not go with Southlake due to our job locations.
You still have not stated any reasons why Prosper is a poor suggestion in that price range. If the price range was under $200,00 I would certainly suggest and Mckinney over Prosper, even though it would be a further drive from the legacy area. What if someone is seeking a larger lot, newer home and an area different than Plano? Prosper is a realistic suggest for many posters id their price range is over $250,000

Gotcha and agreed..I think with the budget though, Plano is going to be tough. Order of importance I personally choose, Allen, McKinney, Fairview, Prosper, Frisco.
I hate the lots in Frisco, so I would vote Prosper for an extra 5 10 minutes in the car over Frisco. But I agree, the OP should consider this logic and push Prosper further down on the list.
Skids, that is an accurate way to explain your point. It really depends on what the op wants and the needs list is.We would never have chosen an area like Frisco over Prosper because it was 5 minutes closer to work. The overall lot sizes in the neighborhoods turned us off the most. The thing that I think bothers alot of people coming from other areas where they are used to large lot neighborhoods is that most of Frisco feels really crammed.
We have company over often and like doing birthday and family parties at home. When we looked in Plano,Frisco,Allen and Mc Kinney we were not finding decent lot size neighborhoods in our price range ( under $400,00) .I thought about having 20-30 people in our yard and being that close to the house next door.I could not fathom how that would work.We wanted about around an acre and a house no larger than 4,000 sq feet in a planned subdivision. We also did not want a house that needed alot of updating and preferred a newer build for energy efficient reasons.
Thank You so much for all the suggestions. Unfortunately I am not very handy around the house at all. We do like the idea of something a little newer, doesn't have to be brand new but we plan on being here awhile and don't want to start updating right when we buy the house. I am from the washington dc area and definitely not used to the alley garages. Not very fond of that and also hate staring into neighbors window or vice versa. We will definitely look in Prosper and of course frisco. We love the Castle Hills Area but dont want to get the cheapest house on the block. Might be a lil out of our price range. We also spend a little time in Allen and really like but again that could be a lil out of the price range? The links in prosper that were posted look great, we want something around 3000 sq feet, not much bigger. Thanks again everyone and if anyone suggests anything else that would be great. Everyone is a lot of help!
Hightower is an excellent elementary school in West Plano 75093. You might be able to find a house in Wentworth estates in your price range now that the market has taken a hit. We sold our house there for way less than we wanted to get, and it was updated.
I now live in a city where there are no alleys and the garages are in the front, and I must disagree with the Prosper poster about alleys being a negative. I think the houses in Plano and places with alleys look much prettier. So many of the garage in front houses are dominated by the garage--ugly!
Just based on distance, McKinney is worse than Prosper and from a superficial look, all the exurbs feel similar, so this argument on this thread appears to be based on animus not on facts.
McKinney to Legacy: 15 miles.
Prosper to Legacy: 13.1 miles.
Prosper apparently has larger lots than competing towns. I don't think McKinney offers anything special over Prosper so I'd go with the shorter commute.

Uh, try what's there, versus what's planned. Five years ago, feel free to assume all planned commercial development goes off without a hitch. These days? A little more of a gamble...
