Thinking Of Moving To Dallas From Florida, How Is It Really?
We are thinking of packing up and leaving Florida. It seems like the cost of living in TX is alot less than Florida. How are the jobs? What is Tx really like? Someone help. Is it worth packing up and leaving?

Well, I gotta be honest and tell ya, having a sister that lives in Tallahassee, it isn't much better here. Sure, the city and the surrounding 'burbs are growing by leaps and bounds, but there are definately growing pains going on, especially with transportation, traffic, and the schools.
The cost of living isn't that bad yet, but it's creeping up with every passing year. The economy seems to be keeping up, BUT appearances often decieve.
As for what is Texas really like? Like no other place on Earth. In the rural areas, you'll still find the rednecks, hillbillies, and good ole boys. In the cities, you'll find diversity, some friends folks, and some shallow folks. Dallas hates Houston and vice versa, but it's all in good fun. I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. Do your research. Some fields are hopping here. Others aren't. Crime tends to be fairly bad, at least in Dallas and we have a very divided city. It seems that Texas is fast becoming a two class society, like Mexico.
If you're looking for culture and things to do though, you've come to the right place. World class museums, sports facilities, concert halls, the works. Restaurants and shopping malls as far as the eye can see. When Dallasites need to work off the week's stress, they go dining and shopping. Case closed.

I think it depends on why you are leaving Florida and what you imagine Texas to have.

Moved from Sarasota
Texas is just different...the weather is hot and the summer's longer. But, the cost of living (especially compared to where Sarasota is now; although from what I read falling dramatically) is very reasonable and, especially for families, would be a great place to live. I don't know that I'd ever leave a city without having a job first, but that's just me so I can't speak to the job situation here. If you lived along or close to the coast in Fl, you will definitely miss the water and the beauty. But, depends on where you are in your life and what you're looking for. Good luck.

I lived in northeast seminole for almost 3 years. I don't know where your coming from to really help you. Northern Florida is more southern and Texas might be a good match but where I lived, to me there is a huge difference and for me it is a much more positive experience being here in DFW. If you are living in south Florida and you are use to that way of life, you will probably find it culture shock.... you can email me if you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

Well I'm in Tampa, Florida. My main reason for moving to Dallas is because of the difference in the cost of living. We have 4 kids and soon we wont be able to afford to live in a decent neighborhood. How is the employment there? I'm looking for an accounts payable position and so I've been sending my resume through monster.com. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your help. It's a blessing to have someone to ask questions.

If you are moving for cost of living only, you will be fine.
Since you are coming from Florida, your cultural expectations may not be too high, so Dallas will be fine.
