According to this CNNMoney.com article, Plano, TX is the wealthiest city in the USA (of cities that have a population of at least 250,000 residents). Congrats to Plano!

Quote:
Among places with 250,000 or more residents, the affluent Dallas suburb of Plano, Texas, boasts the highest median income: $77,038. San Jose came in second at $73,804 and San Francisco was third with $65,497.
In terms of states, the article lists the top 10 wealthiest and poorest. TX didn't make either list. (FWIW, I'm from FW.)

Yeah, they forgot to mention that Collin County had more foreclosures last year than in any of the previous ten years. Sure, you could attribute that to population growth, but I suspect that many of those people up there are living beyond their means. This is Dallas, after all.

Great - now I hope they will stop freeloading from Dallas taxpayers and take care of their indigent medical problems. They do have those large churches up there, or are they ignoring the poor also?

Well, it's a flat out myth that no poor people live in Collin County. Ever been to east McKinney, pretty poor over there.

Huh... more burb bashing?

The foreclosure rate is high across the entire country. It by no means reflects on one city "living beyond their means". If you look across the country, there were lots of people living beyond their means. It's the American way.

Plano has earned that spot. Who are we to cut that down? We all need to get out of the us -vs- them mentality. This is a good thing for the region. More light shining on the region may help sustain growth.

Stop the petty behavior.

Brian

I read about this a while ago on Wikipedia, so I thought it was pretty much common knowledge.
Lakewooder, I always enjoy reading your posts but I have to say I am disappointed by your reply on this subject.

Right on lh_newbie! I've lived in Plano for over 6 years now. Moved originally to be halfway between work and my sister in law. Moved further north to be closer to my son. I'm about a mile south of Frisco (which is growing by leaps and bounds). If you get down to it, I can't "afford" to live here. I'm not political in the least, but we have some major companies out here, mostly IT related. I know we have a lot of doctors, lawyers, nurses, sports figures, etc. All the subdivisions have names, and home owners associations. I, personally, live in an apartment. There are major parks out here for sports. Yes, there are portions of Plano that are "run down", those are the older areas.

I grew up in Dallas, and have had a co-worker aghast at me because I won't move back. I work at 75 and 635, and just wish I could have found a job closer to home.

Can't understand why anyone would be mad at Plano's status. They earned there place and I am happy for them. The only issue I have is that the City of Dallas caters to them while ignoring other parts of the area. I don't blame Plano for it but rather Dallas.
