Dallas needs a Brennan's, but I seriously doubt that would ever happen being so far away from Cajun Country & the Gulf.

The original is in the French Quarter & its sister restaurant is in Houston.

Dallas is sorely lacking in good Cajun & fresh Seafood.

Papadeaux don't count as Cajun.

I don't know about Cajun food per se, but Brennan's does the best brunch on Planet Earth! Didn't know they had a Houston location (I grew up on the Central Gulf Coast).

Wow, I was born and raised in Houston and have never heard of Brennan's. How long has it been there? I wish I would have seen this before I went down there for Christmas! I will definitely put it on the list the next time I'm down visiting my family.

I'd take issue with you on that - Pappadeaux has excellent Cajun food; some of the best crawfish etoufee I've ever eaten, and their boiled crawfish in the spring is also excellent. The Alligator Cafe is also very good, as well as Dodie's, Flying Fish, and Razoo's. My personal favorite is a place in Terrell called Fat Katz. Best gumbo I've ever eaten, including places around New Orleans. Ralph and Cackoo's in Allen isn't bad, but nowhere nearly as good as the one in Bossier City I used to eat at years ago when I often visited that city on business.

As far as fresh seafood, there are also some excellent choices including Cafe Pacific, McCormick & Schmick, and the Oar House in Rockwall which had the best fresh sea bass I've ever eaten.

We had K-Mart years ago, and they left Texas several years ago because their stores here were unprofitable. If you really need low-end retail junk, go to Wal-Mart.

Dallas had a Brennan's on the plaza level of One Main Place in downtown for many years.

I like The Alligator Cafe, owned of course by a Woodrow Wilson Wildcat (Ivan Pugh). He is opening a second location in Casa Linda. Dallas Best Cajun Food - The Alligator Cafe We always have a large group at the wonderful Fat Tuesday celebration under the big tent. His restaurant has been voted best by D or the Observer for many years, it's on the sign outside on Live Oak.

Pappadeaux was also owned by a Woodrow Wilson Wildcat, the late Pete H. Pappas. He owned more than 80 restaurants, and his family were among the first Greek-Americans in Dallas.

Ralph and Kachoo's is gone, another Chinese buffet is it's place. It was good originally when it opened, but being from New Orleans--the ones there are FAR better and it got worse as time went on (service great/food mediocre towards the end).

Nate's in Addison was good, but IIRC it got sold and it was just so so last time I went. The one in Allen closed already as well.

I do like Dodie's for poboys, but that's all I've had there.

Keep in mind I'm from New Orleans, family goes back over 100 years there in the city of New Orleans and a lot are chefs so I'm kind of picky when it comes to Creole and Cajun foods YMMV.
