If you're looking for a house, you could probably find what you're looking for in Richardson. It's very well-located. If you don't mind condo/apartment living, TC80's suggestion is also excellent.

Lake Highlands is not a bad bet either, as it has easy access to downtown/North Dallas along the tech corridor, and also has that leafy aspect you might be looking for. I moved here from the UK (Guildford) myself about 10 years ago, and to be honest there aren't that many areas that truly compare apart from maybe Lakewood - but that would more than likely put you outside of the $1500 pm rental range. Unless you went to the far side of the lake, but then getting over to Dallas for meetings can be a bit of a hassle. Carrolton/Farmer's Branch is maybe a happy medium. Moderator cut: see comment
