My daughter is planning a May wedding in Dallas and we are seriously hunting a great but reasonably priced florist and band/DJ. Any references or suggestions/warnings would be tremendously helpful.

Check out The Knot's DFW board--there is a sticky post at the top with recommended vendors. But here are my suggestions:

Florist--you could consider doing the flowers yourself. I took a class from the Fort Worth Flower Connection and spent $300 on roses, carnations, and hydrangea from farmstogo.com (they were amazing). Everything turned out really nice.

DJ--Melodies & Memories. They are awesome.

I STRONGLY encourage you not to the the flowers yourself, unless you are confidently very skilled at it already. You want to enjoy the wedding day and days leading up, you don't want to stay up all night making sure the florals are correct, or run around back and forth from the reception to the ceremony site putting last minute finishing touches on things. It's really too much. I know so many brides who, after the fact, regret their decision to do so much themselves.

There are some great florists in the Dallas area (Di Fiori, Haute Floral, Blue Lotus, Stems of Dallas as well as others- all great work)- I'm just not sure if they meet your definition of "reasonably priced" or if they fit your wedding style.

If cost is an issue, you can do alot of different arrangements, centerpieces using no flowers or minimal flowers, and spend the bulk of the money for your daughter's bouquet or bridesmaids bouquets. If you really love flowers, there are varying ways to design flowers to still have it elegant without such a high cost. A florist can help you with that.

Regarding DJ's, Astounding Sounds is a GREAT DJ company. Again, not sure if they fall in your budget, or if you're looking for a particular music style, but they are really great. Beware of very cheap DJ's/Bands - you really do get what you pay for. Try to see bands/DJ's perform either live (some play at local restaurants, lounges) or on their YouTube/Facebook videos to see if you like them.

Hope this helps.
