We would love to attend a Chinese New Year celebration with the dragon and other fun family type events. Is there such a thing in the area? We are north, but would be willing to drive into Dallas.

Thanks!

Hmmm....some stuff just came home in my son's school folder Friday (he's learning Mandarin...so it was probably from the teacher) about some Chinese New Year activities in Plano. Let me see if I can dig it out of the recycling for you

ETA: Found it! It was actually some family activities at the Plano libraries:

Davis Library: Jan 21, 3pm: Chinese Lion Dance

Haggard Library: Jan 17, 7pm: Rabbit stories, make a Chinese Latern; Jan 24, 7pm: Chinese New Year stories; Jan 31, 7pm: Seed stories, make a lamtern scratch ornament.

There was an article in Dallas Morning News about Royal China in Dallas quoting April Kao. We know the Kaos and went there a lot when we lived in the area. They live in east Richardson where there are a lot of Asians so I bet there is something going on there. Try searching the Richardson city web site to see if the city has anything going on.
Happy new year, the year of the dragon!

Here are some Chinese New Year activities that may be of interest to you (note, there may be an overlap of activities in some of these):

Chinese New Year Events - Dallas - guidelive.com

Chinese New Year Events - Dallas Area - pegasusnews.com

The Crow Collection of Asian Art

NBA Embracing the Chinese New Year

Really nice event but not scheduled until May 20, 2012 --> DFW Dragon Boat Festival.

Also, there is the Vietnamese New Year “TET” Festival that will be celebrated at Traders Village, 01/28-29/12 for the Year Of The Dragon.

Enjoy!

Late Night is this Friday in the Arts District - that's tomorrow. There will be a dragon at the Crow - probably on Flora which gets blocked off. Look at the schedule online so you don't miss it. Late Night is a very family friendly event - we'll probably be there.
