I was doing random research, and came across this page:
Dallas Asian - About Us
this states that the DFW area has about 414,000 Asians. The DFW metro only has 6 million people, if this statement were true, this would mean the DFW metroplex has an Asian population of 6.9 percent! I am Asian and I have to say that sounds like a bunch of hooey. Could Plano, Richardson, Irving, Carrollton, and Arlington really bring the whole (predominantly White, Hispanic and Black) metro up that much? The best the metro could come up with, in my opinion, is maybe 4%.
the page said it was according to the 2000 census, but I personally think they are just trying to influence Asians to come to the metro.
I'll go into further research, but for now, what do you people think?

after seeing the breakdowns, i'm not surprised really. although the asian population is not huge in dallas itself (percentage wise), some of the suburbs to have quite large asian populations. i know that plano, richardson, and irving have rather high percentages.

I am beginning to think Plano has nothing but Asians and Indians. The area around where we are staying seem to be about 90% foreign.

Dunno, but I know I love shopping the local Asian markets (in Carrollton and Richardson). Haven't convinced the wife to let me bring home a durian yet, though. :-)

And judging from the Asian names I see on the Valedictorian/Salutatorian banners and on reopened businesses in formerly closed shops , the Asian population is helping set the standard. Welcome, brothers and sisters. I am glad you are here.

My experience says that Asians help property values. Thai food is about the best thing since the wheel.

I'd rather live next to a Buddhist Temple than a Mosque or a Catholic Church any day of the week. Welcome to America; lock your doors.

If 6.9% Asian is the correct percentage (which i still doubt) why do people keep screaming DFW is not diverse?

based off wikipedia (which may or may not be reliable) here are the numbers I GOT.
if you were to count all 6 million people (6,003,967) , the DFW metro would be 3.4% asian.
if you were to only count the principle counties (Dallas, Tarrent, Denton, and Collin) the metro would then be about 4.2% Asian out of 4,816,838.

If you were to count all the counties in the DFW metro you would find 204,177 Asians. if you were to count only the principal counties(the four stated above) we would have 201,539 Asians(about half of those reside in Dallas county(which has about 91,329 of them)) .
so in fact if these number off of wikipedia are correct, then the number the website gave us is double that of what is truly correct, but if that site were to be correct then wikipedia is useless. lol....

NOTE: I calculated these, based off the percentages and populations of the DFW metro, this was not actually stated on wikipedia.

I know some schools in Plano ISD have more than 50% Asian kids, as high as 70% or so.

Well, those people saying that it's not diverse have probably never been within 500 miles of the Dallas/Fort Worth area in their lives.
