All of the Townview magnets were exemplary, as were Travis TAG and in East Dallas elementary schools Bonham, Casa View, Hexter, Lakewood, Robert E. Lee, and Mount Auburn. Unless I missed it, I'm not sure where Stonewall fell.

Please don't turn this into a DISD vs Plano ISD thread.

I think she was just chiming in with her local school's ratings, the same thing Big G did. Chill out.

Stonewall was acceptable. The North Dallas DISD schools faired reasonably well. Many fell a rank, but since most that fell were Exemplary primarily due to the Texas Projection, it isn't too surprising. I think most parents in this area who are in the public schools in North Dallas will continue to feel reasonably good about their public school options.

Withers, Nathan Adams, DeGolyer, Walnut Hill, Preston Hollow and Pershing all managed Recognized ratings. Marsh Middle School and E.D. Walker also earned Recognized ratings, which is quite impressive for DISD middle schools. Cary Middle School, Franklin Middle School, Hillcrest, White and T.J. were all Academically Acceptable. While it is sad the White lost its Recognized rating, at least they didn't get hit as hard as most of the high schools in the district.

It will be interesting to see the subgroup data for all the high schools. I would bet that the results for and Woodrow (and Long) are the results of subgroup performance rather than overall performance.

I'm told that special education scores were counted this year - and in every subgroup. Stonewall, Long and Woodrow house the regional schools for the deaf. Also Woodrow was given several special education units, ranging from bi-polar to non-ambulatory. Their passing rate was only 13% which skewed the scores lower.

You would think that the state would take the special populations into account in determining the rankings. I understand that once you start excluding populations it is a slippery slope and that we should want to educate all students to their full potential -- but it also seems reasonable to say that "full potential" doesn't necessarily equate to passing the TAKs for some portions of the special education population. (And, of course, many deaf, bi-polar and non-ambulatory students will be just as capable as the their counterparts who don't face those challenges -- so someone should be able to draw the line.)

It's a shame this overshadows the fact that we got our completion rates up over the last five years from 65% to 90%.

Another interesting data point -- there are at least three exemplary districts in the area: Highland Park (no surprise), Frisco and Carroll. I wonder if this makes Frisco the largest exemplary district in the state?

Sunnyvale is exemplary as well. Obviously, it is not larger.

I didn't notice any other districts ranked that high.
