The bottom of the overpass was flashing multiple white lights this morning about 5:45. I could see it from far away then when I got there it was really distracting and I kind of slammed on my breaks a little because it was so distracting.

I've driven this route for several months and this is the first time I saw it. I'm thinking it must be some kind of camera. Have you guys heard anything about this?

There is ongoing construction by the LBJ Express project in that immediate area (IIRC the eastbound was still affected in that area at that time). I would guess welding under the bridge, or maybe a strobe on one of the many construction vehicles that were opening up the right lane and exit and exit in that area about that time.

There are cameras along the highway used for traffic flow and accident spotting, etc, but none use lights or strobes or take pictures of anything in any normal sense of the word. Check out the Hillcrest and Montfort cams in the link above if they are online when you pull it up.

Yeah me and my cousin passed under this last night driving home and he was scared it was like a photo radar type camera. I told him I was almost certain it was not. Will relay this info tomorrow so he can quit worrying lol.

I go under that overpass twice a day on my way to and from work and have never noticed any flashing lights.

I happened to be stopped at a red light on the 635 frontage road next to an apparatus that was strobing on the overpass. I thought that was odd, so I shot photos of it. I tried to get photos of actual flashes, but I didn't manage to do it.

The plans for the LBJ Express call for new toll lanes down the middle, with free lanes on the sides. This apparatus looks like a test device, though I don't know its actual purpose in this particular instance.

Those are cameras they are testing. The light is the flash of the strobe that illuminates your plate.

Necessary I'm sure, but still kind of eepy-cray to my sensibilities...

I noticed I didn't see it this morning either. Only yesterday.
