no, the previous poster said their kids were defined by how they raised them. Yes I had previously said slang, dress, etc, but the replier said that it's the kids parenting and not the surroundings. And I simply asked a question. And this doesn't have to do with black, white, whatever, It's more socioeconomic because hell when I lived out in seagoville it was a bunch of white crackheads so they come in all races, but I'm simply stating that if you put a kid in an environment, he or she will be shaped by there surroundings and to deny that is absolutely stupid.

The same way watching porn densensitizes people, watching tons and tons of gorey tv or growing up witnessing violence desensitizes one and often time even makes them more violent.

I never equated drugs with black schools. I'm simply stating that ones surroundings affect us, especially during pre-pubescent and puberty years.

it's funny how so many idiots take offense but I've lived comfortably around many races and in fact a lot of the schools we are looking at like in mansfield had 20% black 50% white and a mixture of other races. Be offended, I really don't care.

If i wanted to, I would turn this into a race issue and state the facts about black neighborhoods and crime statistics vs white neighborhoods but I didn't. If I wanted to I would show you, and there are exceptions, the school ratings across the metroplex for predominately black vs white schools. call me a racist, snort your nose, call me a piece of s@#$ but the numbers don't lie. I've simply stated that I want my kids to be in the majority.

haha, if you think I'm racist you would love some of my former marine friends from alabama and tennessee. We had a barber in beaufort SC, that would NOT cut a black mans hair, had confederate signs all about and used the N word like it was cool.

I have none of those feelings. I put all races on my equal level and it kind of upsets me that people are calling me racist just because I want to be in the majority. i guess as a democrat that want to be in the majority in congress, that's a problem too for all these wealthy republicans because thats predjudiced and we should all mix equally.

It became a race issue with the title of the thread. And while not racist, you do have leaning or preconceptions that even you don't seem aware of.

If I made it in an all white school surely your kids can make it in a mixed school. DISD isn't a scene from 'Warriors' on most days.

In a few years, you and your kids will be in the minority both in TX AND the entire United States. What are you going to do then?

In a few years there will still be majority white schools regardless if whites are the majority. Rural areas where the property is expensive and the jobs scarce will continue to be majority white as will the uber exclusive communties. that was for the poster after you.

For you, yeah I do have some preconceptions and maybe that isn't right, but i'm not blind. I have two friends that teach in the DISD district and both tell me it is a nightmare. One is a female and as a first year highschool teacher the principal actually asked her to teach elementary school instead because none of the kids would listen to her because she looked like she was 17 and a tiny little white girl.

I have been inside of DISD schools many many times as I played all the major sports in school. HUGE difference in the schools and the attitudes of the children. I know there are probably plenty of Harvard, Yale grads and lawyers and doctors that come out of DISD but if you want to tell me that school there is similar to some rural town, perhaps you need to come pay us a visit in midlothian, or venus, or maypearl, or godley. I'm not saying one school is better than the other. Half the people I know in venus can't spell hillbilly. But there sure is a difference in the schools. I like the fact that my kids can go out for any team and make it. In the larger ones, often times your kid has to be a star or sit the bench. I like that I know all my neighbors and have the same interests etc. I like the fact that often times I see the teachers out when shopping or they have kids that are involved in sports on my kids teams. Yes I know I kind of changed the subject from black/white to rural/city. But they go together somewhat.

This has turned into a huge bashing and that's ok. I'll accept being a racist if that's what you think I am. But it's not that at all. It's just the black schools in the area tend to be lower socioeconomic schools with lots more issues and I'm certainly not the only one that feels that way.

I suspect the context of you setting up to "sell" your product had more to do with things than the color of your skin.
We weren't selling anything and all we were doing was looking where our booth would be best located. It was a bank that my wife worked at that wanted to do an educational financial services program for the Black community, and the church invited them there. We had no collateral, signs, nothing. It was just us two whites there when the Black congregation let out. We felt despised. Hated. I will never forget it. Ever. The looks we got were evil.

There are 157,000 kids in DISD in over 220 schools - I think there are around 18,000 employees...so there you go generalizing again. However, when it comes to DISD a lot of people on this forum do that..

true i'll give you that one. but the closer you are to downtown dallas does to me seem to be worse areas. Yes I'm generalizing. I can't possibly know about every school. But I do follow the news and see DISD in the news for negative things ALL the time. Now mostly the news just shows the administration, but also you see all the crime around these areas as well. i don't have to go to every single school. I've been through the areas and seen them. I've talked to friends, co-workers and family. I see the areas in the paper.

Are there some that aren't bad sure, but in general DISD doesn't have that great of a reputation. Who cares if I'm generalizing if that is the case in most situations. guess what, there are african americans that look white. There are Ceo's that have beards and tattoos, but generally african americans are darker skinned and CEO's wear suits and ties and look nice. So is it a generalization when there are a few that break the mold?
