Good overall. Sitting in an older, built-out area, it still retains its recognized status with IB programs at both high schools. I think it holds its own against just about any Tarrant County ISD outside of maybe Southlake.

It's also worth noting that a small part of Euless feeds into the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

Euless and Bedford have schools in HEB ISD and because of the north Euless/Grapevine common border there are homes zoned for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD
Hurst has schools in HEB and also in Grapevine-Colleyville, Birdville ISD

HEB schools do well with what you get for the money spent on education--always get good marks on the accountability review that is done every couple of years
Trinity and Bell both are IB schools--the only district in the area to have ALL their high schools with IB programs vs making IB a magnet choice...
excellent music programs, good trade school programs with some in medical fields--cosmetology is especially desireable/competative as is the auto mechanics program...
Trinity has recognized football program, Bell has good baseball program with a coach that is one of the best...
HEB spends lot of money on its IT setup both for students and teachers/parents--spending money to upgrade the web page setups for all their elementary schools
It pays its teachers well and has good teacher retention
Pennington Field off Central has paid for itself because of the rentals to other schools if nothing else

HEB is a district with changing demographics--even now--
at one point in the 80s it was top draw for professionals like engineers at BellHelicopter and pilots with AA...now the numbers of lower income/blue collar/ethnic is growing...
area has lots of apartments which creates problem with floating population of children who move relatively frequently within the district every 3-4 months sometimes...not a good thing for the kids or their schools

the district is working very hard to maintain good test scores that reflect quality teaching and develop programs that attract and keep familys who desire quality education--
they have Suzuki strings in several elementary schools, have started offering Chinese and Hindi language classes, and have IB and AP programs in jr hi and high school along with the G/T programs that start in elementary school ...

the fact is that many of their students come to them with problems in one way or another--these problems mean that the district has to work harder to create a student who is on a par with those who come from middle class home or better--
one with college educated parents who have stable home life with stable income and other factors which aid the education process...

The problem that faces HEB ISD is that there are relatively few neighborhoods in the district for higher income families to live...
almost no housing in the 300K+ has been built since the 90s--
people who can afford a 350K home choose other areas simply because Bedford and Euless don't offer those choices...
so the district can't replace the types of families that were there in its boom days---
they are choosing Colleyville, Keller, Grapevine, maybe Southlake...
don't blame the district for that though--that is function of how the people with the city lacked foresight...
they opted to turn a good deal of their development land over to apt developers and home developers in the 80s--so that there was fast growth to fill the city's coffers but they failed to consider the future development/need of the area...
