Hey everyone - I am moving from Chicago, down to Dallas, in April, and am wanting to trde in my current bmw for something nice...I am thinking another bmw would be great, but am wondering if a convertible would be worth having there? They are not worth having here in CHI, where you barely get any summertime, and the rear-wheel drive aspect of most convertibles makes driving in the wintertime very risky.

So, would a convertible be worth having in Dallas?

There are more sunny days in Dallas than there are in FL, the so-called sunshine state. Go for it. I used to have a convertible here and loved it.

A guy who works for me has an Infiniti G37 convertible. I'm guessing his top is down part of the day 150 days per year. Mostly in the spring and fall and at night during the summer. He had it down before lunch today.

Probably not a good idea in Dallas-Dallas. You'll get molested by 'homeless' people and obviously it is far easier to carjack someone in a convertible. But you can mitigate these risks by carrying a gun.

Yes, it was a joke.

That said there are some parts of south Dallas where I wouldn't want to put the top down.

I will be the dissenter and say no. But then a large portion of my reasoning is because it would mess up my hair...

Yes. Nothing like it, the summer is rough, but at night, with the top down it's worth it. There's plenty of hardtop convertibles out now so the choice is easier.

There are plenty of days from sept to dec then march-late may that you can enjoy.

But the question is, are you a convertible person? The questions becomes, why not have a convertible? You can go slow and have fun in a vert.
