We are moving to Dallas in the next year and wanted to check in on how admissions season goes this year (March). Is there a specific forum or website for this? I live in the Northeast and here we have Urbanbaby. Anything like that or is it just the individuals posts? Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of. There used to be a sparsely populated one years and years ago, but that site was also trying to sell ads to the private schools, so eventually pulled the plug on the forum after one too many complaint threads about schools that happened to be sponsors of the site. The site itself is still around www.dfwprivateschools.com but the content is now 100% controlled, and tends to heavily push 2nd-tier and 3rd-tier schools.

Urbanbaby is insidious! I'm also from the Northeast. There are some evil people on that board. First time going through this process myself and like you have been searching for information. People on this board are very helpful if you have specific questions. As fndmom says, decisions come out next week. Happy to answer any questions you may have (if I can). How old are your kids?

I'll come back after the accept by date. Interested in Hockaday. What time do they email? Do you think people will come here and report their results? Can't find any info like that from last year.

An acquaintance actually hired a specialist to coach her thru the application process. Says this is common? Her daughter was not accepted at Hockady but was at Episcopal.....

I can't imagine needing a specialist since the process is so simple but i will look into it. Thank you.

Wasn't this year; (actually it was several years ago before ESD's public black eye and "retirement" of the headmaster and many leadership changes came out following a successful lawsuit about a teacher/student affair.) But just recalling my friend said it was common to hire a coach to get parents and kid in the best position regarding the application and school visits.

That seems excessive. The process is pretty straightforward and transparent. The websites list each step that needs to be taken. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. It's just very time consuming. At the end of the day, I have to believe that the schools will take the kids (and the families) that they think will be a good fit with the school.

Default wait list, sigh...

We were wait listed at the only school we applied to. It's a very competitive school and our child had high scores. I already sent the wait list notice back to the school stating that we'll go if admitted. Now I guess we wait and hope? Anyone have advice?

Another child I know was wait listed at Hockaday, then admitted to Greenhill and ESD. And another was admitted to Greenhill and got a plain old 'no' from St. Marks.

I'm wondering now if we should have applied to more than one school, but I really do have very strong feelings that the one school we applied to is the only one I would pay for.
