A good number of HP/UP families send their kids to private schools. One of my son's best friends at Jesuit was an HP kid.

Maybe a strange questions, but if you have $675-$750,000 cash to spend on a home, would you even consider taking out a 'small' mortgage, $200k-$300k to increase your chances of finding a home in your desired area?

The Park Cities are overwhelmingly white (90% or so), however it's important to note that the demographics are changing rapidly. The district's minority population has doubled over the last 5-7 years and had doubled in the 5 years prior to that as well. It was about 2% when I graduated in mid-to-late 1990's and is at 8% today. Even with the minority population being small, I still had Chinese, Jewish, Hispanic, and Muslim friends in my little high school "group" of 25-30 friends.

Re: private schools, yes, quite a few families do go private. Somewhere around 20%. St Mark's, Hockaday, ESD, Greenhill, Cisterican, boarding schools, etc- all draw from the Park Cities for a variety of reasons (religion, smaller class sizes, prestige, extra curriculars, etc)

Good point - for $1,000 or so a month - it would push OP up into the "average" price range for HPISD @ $900k-$1M purchase price.

Yes we've consider that, but Dave Ramsey advises against that.We hope to be millionaires one day,and a mortgage even a small one make that pretty hard.Oh I forgot to mention we plan on buying a small lake home in Austin(Lake Travis) in a couple of year, plus we like to travel about 6times a year (avg trip about $5,000 x 6= $30,000). Wouldn't mind a smaller cottage(spent the last 5years in a 1200sqft flat in Finland)but do they"Parkies" look down on that?

No, "they" don't look down on that!! I grew up there. My family started in a "cottage" and then moved to a bigger 2,500sf home when I was in later elementary school. No big deal. Just drive down all the streets north of Mockingbird between Preston & Tollroad, the 4500 blocks south of Mockingbird and many of the blocks east of Hillcrest and you will find TONS of Parkies living in homes between 1500-3000sf. Not everyone lives in a mansion or McMansion. Not even close.

I'm a Jesuit graduate and have met several wonderful people from Greenhill. They provide a pretty solid education!
