We are currently looking to make a move from Irmo (North of Columbia)SC. We need to find a safe and kid friendly neighborhood. I have three children ages 12, 7, and 1. My 12 yr old is home schooled and a competitive gymnast, my 7 will be going to 1st grade and I need a really good school district as she struggles a little bit. I am also looking for a cheap but good three preschool program for my 1 yr old, as I am also going to school myself. All my classes are online, so I don't need any information on colleges, but everything else will help. We are also looking to rent for the first year as to get a feel for the area before we buy. I would like to stay under $1500 but I am looking for a four bed room home, something 2000 or more sq ft.

Thanks for all the insight.

Where is the job? The metroplex is bigger than some states. No one wants a 90 min. commute if they can help it. WIll someone need public transit? How long a commute can be tolerated?

My husband is currently working for the Department of Defense on contract in Afghanistan, so he is not looking for job quite yet. We are actually hoping to be settled in a area that we like so that he can find a job from that point.

Hi Searchingindallas

It might be a bit challenging to find 4bedroom 2000+ sq ft house in Plano. Currently there is only one listing available but a good one! The elementary school for that particular listing is Carlise which is rated Exemplary. Plano has plenty of exemplary elementary schools but very limited amount of 4br houses available for rent under $1500.

You may want to consider renting for a bit until your hubby gets back home and you know where you want to settle, and can tolerate a commute. If you rent that opens up a whole bucket load of areas with good schools that you can cherry pick.
