it won't come to this because we have family and a spare ranch house but just in case, are there any places to rent that are monthly or at lease short lease in the area.

We are currently looking for a house and ours is on the market.

Month to month is pretty rare nowadays. Most land lords can demand a 12 month lease and get it.

You're best bet is to hopefully find someone who is traveling for a few months or has a need to lease there place short term

There are a few apartment complexes that eill do it but I don't kniw of any private landlords who do. Most of the condo communities have rules against leasing out short term....

I closed on selling my house year before last on a Tuesday and closed on my new house that next Thursday. I had the same fears you did but we gave ourselves a good shot at not needing a place in between time and with a little luck we did it. Saved a lot of money.
