Hi Friends, I have a job offer to move to dallas. Office location is in the subject line. We (couple plus infant child) have never been to Dallas !

I've been searching online but cant find details regarding the following :

1) Apartment complexes - gated, pool, updated appliances - 2 bedroom apartment, cost etc ? Any recommendations of apartment complex names? not looking to spend more than $1300.

2) Travelling to the office - just to keep the cost low, I am looking to live very close to the office. From a commute/traffic standpoint, would you advise that while driving in (using LBJ expressway) , I should consider living in a particular direction so the approach to the office is better ?

3) We would prefer to be within walking distance of a few big stores or a mall, couple of restaurants/bars (not too hip, we cook at home 95%) so we can walk the baby easily without the whole car seat process

4) We are from India, so would prefer neigborhoods with a diverse population.

Thanks for your help !

You will be near the 635/DNT interchange which is under construction, and the stretch of LBJ your office is located on (between 75 and 35E) is under construction and will be for several years. No approach is ideal.

IIRC Lincoln Center is south of 635 and the roads around that area are, in a word, odd. I would not live in that area if I were you; houses are out of your price range and many of the apartment complexes are iffy.

If you're looking for a "diverse" community (and if that's code for "we want to live with other Indians"), head for Valley Ranch in Irving. Your commute will be a beating, but many of us endure that sort of thing every day.

Good luck.

I have to override the Valley Ranch-North Irving suggestion. Although Irving is the best choice in terms of high Asian Indian population, the drive WOULD be a beating. Richardson is a good choice for you in terms of diverse community (also have an Indian pop) and distance. Here's a link to an apartment complex, I don't know this place but this is Richardson so you can see the map:

Thanks for the details. Diverse is not the code for an Indian area
We are from India but live in NYC (sorry didnt make it clearer in the initial post). By diverse I meant, an area of working professionals, between 30-45, different backgrounds.
Thanks again for sharing about the construction details.

Squirl

Thanks for suggesting Richardson as an alternative. I will take a look at this now.

Ah. If that's the case, then Richardson.

I find that most Indians seeking to move to this area seem to want to live around other Indians, which is why I assumed that was what you wanted as well. Sorry.
