West Tawaconi Info (Dallas, Garland, Greenville: real estate, crime, house)

My husband and I are looking to move from the DC area to a home near a lake for about a year to take time off from the ratrace. We couldn't spend more than $125,000 for a place, but we have no children so we don't need too many amenities. If anyone is familar with the West Tawaconi area and would be willing to give us some HONEST and helpful info, it would be greatly appreciated! Is traffic horrible? Is there much crime? Could we actually find a home for under $125,000 that would be okay to live in for a year? Any helpful info would be wonderful!!

Hi, we have a lake house on Lake Tawakoni. Yes, you can find a house on the lake for $125K. The real estate around there is pretty low. Try looking at realtor com and look up these cities/towns: Quinlan, Wills Point & Emory. These are the closest "big" cities to the lake. The others are dots on the map. They are building a SuperWalmart in Quinlan (VERY small town). The closest big shopping for that area is either Rockwall or Greenville. There is not much traffic at all. We live in Garland (suburb of Dallas on the NE side) and we can get to our place in about an hour. The only hold up can be if you are behind a very slow driver as the roads are only 2 lane blacktops. You will run into some traffic during "rush hour" but it is nothing compared to around Dallas and on the holiday weekends. It is still nothing to even call traffic.

As for crime, petty crime is about it. My mother-in-law lives out there by herself now and feels safe.

Have you found a part of the lake you want to live on? Right now the water level is way down, we are in a serious rain shortage. Our peir and ramp are totally dry. As are most around Tawakoni. If you have any other questions I will be more than happy to try and answer them.

Oh, our place is over in East Tawakoni.
West Tawakoni and East Tawakoni are both little bitty towns.
