If people think Richardson is the hood, they don't know what they are talking about. Same with the people who think East Plano is the hood.

There are many Dfw suburbs like Richardson that have bad areas and nie areasThere are other suburbs that have no bad areas at all. Richardson is by no means a ghetto overall. There are nice areas with older, established neighbohoods like Canyon Creek. It is middle class suburb with a few less than desireable areas.

I would disagree with your friend. I've lived in Richardson for about 2 years now, East of 75 on Spring Valley, and haven't had any problems. The Northern part of Richardson (75082) has very nice expensive homes, but you can find less expensive older homes in that zip code too.

Perhaps she only knows the "bad side" of Richardson? My research on here and other sites said that Richardson was a nice area to live in. Im so confused. If there a certain area I should stay away from?
Where does she live now? Like 50-60 miles out from Dallas? The inner suburbs are still fine. Depends on how she defines "too hood." Could she have meant:
  • there are minorities there?
  • there are poor people there?
  • fewer gated communities than other cities?
  • people are out *gasp* walking around?
  • she heard Spanish being spoken at the grocery store?
Some of these posts are so hilarious (not laughing at you at all).

When DH (born and raised in LA) found out that the Spring Valley corridor was considered a ghetto by many around here, he laughed.. for a long time.

I agree with justme's statement. Signs in spanish apparently = ghetto, to many. We were warned off Richardson Heights neighborhood because it was on the "wrong" side of Beltline and too close to the Spring Valley ghetto.

So glad we ignored those comments. RH is a beautiful and safe neighborhood.

Richardson is so hood. You know where else is hood? University Park. I saw a kid in an SMU hoodie there the other day. And some of the businesses have signs up in English and Spanish. Hey, Mexican food restaurant, this is America! Learn the language! They're not "tacos." They're fried beef sandwiches.

I drove down Spring Valley between Coit and 75 regularly when I went to pick up my husband from work at TI sometimes. That place isn't a "hood". We used to stop at the grocery stores there because there were great prices on fruits and veggies. I wouldn't choose to live in that area because the best schools in Richards are a bit further north. I'd choose either Bowie or Brentfield elementary schools, feeding to Parkhill Jr. High and Pearce High School. We ended up living in Plano but had many friends who lived in Richardson who loved it. Here is a link to Richardson schools and their ratings: Richardson ISD - Schools

Fried beef WRAPS! And what is up with that, TORTILLAS replacing good old American BREAD?! Darn furriners.

What's even worse is that there's this Scottish place that sells breakfast, McDonald's, and their egg sandwiches use CANADIAN bacon and ENGLISH muffins! Talk about subverting our Nation's great Culture!! What's wrong with AMERICAN bacon on TEXAS TOAST?!?

You know a place is going 'hood when Canadians start moving in. Just listen for the "eh" at the end of sentences, then run like heck!
