Hi. Looking for Dallas area Montessori schools. Any recommendations? North Dallas preferably but open to anywhere (Plano, Richardson, etc...) I tried doing a search for this, but the search kept screwing up....so I apologize for a repeat question. Thanks for any info.

There is one at the intersection of 190 and Campbell. It's technically a Garland address bordered by Richardson. I've heard good things about this place.

St. Alcuin is probably the top Montessori school in Dallas. Also heard good things about Westwood, St. James Episcopal, St. Christopher, and White Rock Montessori. Good luck with the search.

St. Alcuin has an unusually high matriculation rate to St. Marks and Hockaday. By no means is that the only factor to consider, but it is an important one for most parents.

The school starts early (18 months) and you attend classes 5 days a week (unlike Meadowbrook).

It is expensive (around 15k) for the 18 month-3 year old program and goes up from there.

There is testing to get admitted in the 18 month to 3 year old program, but I can't really tell how seriously they take it. My impression based on neices that attend is that during the testing process they are just basically making sure you can follow some directions and that you are not a "problem" child.

My sister really likes the program because she felt that it gave her daughters an early start in school.

I agree with HockDad about St. Alcuin matriculation rate to St. Mark's and Hockaday. We toured the school and came away very impressed. That said, Montessori just doesn't seem to be the right fit for our family. Our son went to St. James Episcopal Montessori school and we pulled him out after a few months. Most families love the program, but we found that there were large communication issues, inflexibility in the program, and a very poor after school care.
