If you were moving to the Dallas area and one spouse is working in Las Colinas, the other will be job hunting, and you have two small children -one entering 1st grade- where would you settle? For best schools, community, home value for your money and quality of life? Also, please give names of developments or neighborhoods/zip codes/streets to help us. We do not know the area well.
We are leaving a wonderful area in our hometown and want to try to replicate it in Dallas. Budget under $250,000.

Coppell and Flower Mound would be great options. Do an MLS search in both areas under $250,000.Wellington in Flower Mound is a large master planned community with amenities. Coppell has been a great area to live for a long time with many established family friendly neighborhoods. Schools are fantastic in both areas...

It is hard to find much in Coppell below $250k. One of my favorite cities and many Las Colinas people live in Flower Mound. Great schools, great for families & kids. Highland Village or Lantana are both good choices if you don't mind a little more commute time.

I'd actually say Plano or Irving if one spouse is looking. Flower Mound would be on the long side if your spouse was working in Uptown, for example.

Grapevine. Commute to Las Colinas is very easy, and there are many homes in the under $250k price range. Schools are very good, and many families live here. The area of Grapevine south of 114 and east of 121 is very sought-after, and will also be the easiest commute to Las Colinas.

Living in Tarrant county makes Fort Worth a possibility for job seeker spouse.

Expensive because it would be on the toll road: about $5 a day. It would take about 30 minutes.

For a $250k home in Plano... that means east older Plano or far north central or northeast Plano. Northeast Plano could mean 50-60 minutes and Frisco would then be even closer. Plano is IMO not an option unless you are in higher priced South or west Plano.

Plano is a big city that stretches a long way north.

I am biased towards Plano. If commute is doable than its one of the best option in DFW. Our location is central and we have access to highways and Tollways which comes in handy if your work destination changes. Our schools are awesome and there is no amenity that you can't find within few minutes.
