I notice they say "the Dallas ISD," "the Plano ISD," etc. This is just weird. I'm just used to hearing "Dallas ISD," etc. Strange indeed.

I'm sure there are pockets of snobbery but overall I don't see it. Houston seems much more divided in terms of the haves and have-nots. And the haves aren't hesitant to remind you of it.
I tried to rep you for the advice, but it said I had to spread the love around. In any case, thanks for the tip. So glad to hear that, as I do have a relative or two telling me to expect snobbery in DFW (though they're only speaking from visits, and I visited too, but not as long, and didn't experience that at all). So happy to hear someone say that's not the case, as I'm far from snobby myself.

(Not directed at you personally, just a general statement.)

Though I've lived in CA, I'm clearly not from TX or CA, so I think I'm pretty neutral on this topic. With that said, if Dallas ISD stands for Dallas Independent School District (as Google tells me it does, I could be wrong - I actually don't know yet firsthand since I'm not from TX and have no children) but, if I were to use that term in a sentence that is grammatically correct, it would have a "the" before it, no? (i.e. "I prefer that my child attend school in the Dallas Independent School District.") Just my outsider's view, so take it for what it is.

Many Dallas locals may not say the "the" which makes it a Dallas thing, just like many Baltimore locals don't say the "t" in Baltimore. It just is what it is. I say embrace our differences. When I'm in Baltimore and I ask for "water" but I'm given "wooder," I say thank you. Both wet my whistle just the same.

To: SunnyTXSmile;

You learn quickly, When in Rome; do as the Romans do.
I sometimes pronounce "water" as "wadder".

I don't really think that it is an unpredictability factor that is so much part of the old saying about Texas weather, we get plenty of heads-up for the changes. I think it is more to do with the duration. That is the meaning I get from the tag ending , "just wait around."

Absolutely. Within the last week, I had to wear a hoodie and use a blanket (stowed in the car) to make it through Little League practice. In Houston, we had one light jacket each. Here we have all kinds of jackets from heavy to light and in between as well.

School district boundaries do not necessarily match those of cities. This was a big shock to us. For example, Carrollton includes parts of at least 3 districts and some CFBISD schools are not in Carrollton. So check out the actual school district before you rent or buy.

I am liberal. I live in Collin County. I love it.

Im not silent about my views nor am I in your face about them. I have had no problems at all. I have met many like minded people as well. Not to mention there are areas of Collin, Denton, and Tarrant counties that are very multicultural and open. Look at the Muslim community in Plano and Allen for example. Many of the streets in Plano are sponsored by the Muslim communities, several of the KFC's in Collin county and Northern Dallas county serve Halal meat, and one of the churches in Allen hosted an inter faith symposium with one of the mosques (the one on Hedgecoxe).

Sorry, but I have found Plano to be extremely open and accepting on every level. I have witnessed almost no tension since I have lived here. I lived in Dallas for 3 years first as well.
There may be open areas of Plano, but for the most part it is very conservative. It always votes heavily Republican and there was an article in the paper this week that said it is one of the most conservative leaning counties in the country.
