I have ridden the trains in most directions including South Dallas and have always felt pretty comfortable on them. It's sometimes a lot more convenient than driving especially when there are parking fees involved. However, I want to explore a part of the Great Trinity Forest that doesn't have very safe parking and would require taking a train to South Dallas and then taking a bus to the next stop. How safe is it for someone (especially a white person) on the bus there? Is it pretty much the same as on the train?

YES it is. Color don't mean squat when you're hanging on as the blasted things bounce around!

You'll be fine on the bus and train. It's off them you need to focus on. Stay hyper aware of your surroundings exiting the stops. It wouldn't be a bad idea to carry some mase.

I'd try to look as official as possible. I've had white friends in your situation wear National Geographic logo gear and fake badges. That may be extreme, but you do not want to come across as touristy.

All noted. The trail appears to be just behind the bus stop so getting off probably won't be a problem but I will have to wait for the returning bus. I'll dress like a bum.

If would suggest you take that trip by car. If it's the location off Loop 12 you should have no problem parking since that area sits out by itself. You could catch the bus and train but you would not be saving yourself and money or time by doing so.

It's not on Loop 12. This one is on Scyene and I don't think there are any good places to park. I can either take the bus from Lawnview to one of the trailheads or get off the train at Lake June and walk about 1/4 mile through a neighborhood to get to another.

You'll be fine. The odds of you being attacked or something are EXTREMELY small. Don't let irrational fear control your life.

Go early mornings.

Crackheads and Zombies tend to be out a little later.

Unfortunately I'm out later too as I work nights. I don't wake up before noon for anything.
