We've been looking at a few properties in Bluffview/Greenway Parks/Devonshire that look appealing but they don't have pools. Curious to know where kids go swimming in the summer if there's no pool attached to the house? Do all of these neighborhoods have community pools? Or do we just need to get a gym membership? Heard about the long Dallas summers and feel a pool would be nice to have. Unfortunately, all of the houses we like don't have one and we don't really want to deal with the cost/hassle of putting one in.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

There are not many community pools in Dallas, Club Royal is a community pool that isn't too far from bluffview/devonshire. Many folks go to the CC pool, Brookhollow & Northwood are pretty popular for that part of town. If that fails, make friends with the neighbors as many do have pools.

City parks have pools. You can also find "tennis and swim club," gyms, or country clubs to join. Failing that, you can go swimming on vacations, etc.

Personally, I never liked residential pools because the water was always so warm that it feels like swimming in a bathtub. You will also never fully recover the cost of putting in a pool as it doesn't really increase the value of a home that much.

When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, very few people (even very rich ones) had pools. Most people went to Lakewood Country Club , East Dallas YMCA or Tietze Park - also Knights of Columbus (now has a new location and pool). In the really old days many went to Vickery Park (sorry can't help injecting a little Dallas history). Yep it was kind of the same in the Park Cities..I swam a few times at the park on Lover's Lane (have to show residency/go with a friend who is a resident).

Tietze is still pretty nice and the park has really been improved -- you might want to check that out, even if it is a bit of a drive.. I don't know as much about Greenway Parks/Devonshire in that regard - but I have a feeling that area was kind of the same, therefore there are probably fewer private pools. I've had a few friends over there and few have/had pools.

Lots of community pools and wave pools for pretty low fee. Google!

Some YMCAs have pools. The JCC has one too.

I truly miss having a pool from may-oct. It sucks to share public pools.

Plano offers quite a few indoor as well as outdoor city pools with life guards, slides, lessons, cafe, changing rooms etc. for residents. Go to city's website and pick one near your place if you are a new Planoite. All big fitness centers and one or two high schools and few private schools offer pools as well. There are many private swim schools in the area where you can arrange swim lessons or parties for the kids. Almost all apartment complexes and most big residential communities have their own pools. Many hospitals have pools. There are two Hawaiian Falls locations in nearby towns and of course YMCA and few churches have their pools as well. Stay cool!!!

A lot of those neighborhood families belong to the Park Cities Y 6000 Preston Road Dallas, TX 75205.
