I watch Channel 5 in the morning before The Today Show but hate it. Force of habit keeps it on I suppose. It's nothing but overnight murders, robberies, rapes and all sorts of sordid things that, frankly, I don't care about. It would probably be the same on the other channels, too.
I watch Channel 8 news at 10:00 and like it. HOWEVER, I can't stand the new weatherman, Pete Delkus. He's actually okay if he sticks to the weather - I don't like how he insults Dale Hansen (calling him fat, making fun of his clothes, etc.). He's trying to be funny and I guess someone told him along the way that the weather and sports guys should have a "banter" but CUT IT OUT. First of all, he has NO history with the others and whatever he says just isn't funny. Ugh.

I only watch the news in the morning before work, and it's channel 4. I like their cheerfulness and also I have a big crush on Evan the weatherman.

I've watched KXAS for news/weather ever since I can remember. I sometimes watch the other networks to see if I'm missing anything, but I'm not. Plus, David Finfrock (a.k.a. Ned Flanders) ROCKS. He's no Harold Taft, but he's as close as we'll get.

One of my degrees is in Journalism and I once interned for the Dallas Times Herald. I have written on and off in a part-time capacity, mostly freelance. It has never been my profession.
Channel 8 was once the gold standard, especially in the Marty Haag days. It's still probably the best (caution for Belo-influenced stories), although Channel 11 improved dramatically from the old days (especially the really old Durwood days with Icky). I too think Fox 4 does a good job and seems very 'local'. Good Day is very entertaining.
I just really have never been able to stomach Channel 5. Harold Taft was the best weatherman ever... but I feel sorry for Jane having to sit there with Mike...and then there are the inexcusable typos and beauty treatment teasers...

Like somebody else said here, I rarely even watch the local news anymore. It's wayyyy too depressing. There are now more murders/rapes/violent crimes than I have ever seen in the 7 years I have lived here. Sadly, crimes against or involving children are dramatically rising as well. Either their kidnapped in their cars, held hostage by an angry parent or some other awful thing.

Yeah J@M, hilarious! What ever happend to Paul Crane, and Mike Burger from Channel 4 in the 80's-90's?

OMG - that was the WORST ever. Seriously. Also, does anyone remember this DORKY morning news anchor from like 5 years ago? This clip was a classic:
LiveLeak.com - Live on the air a news-reporter get attcked by a snake.

Too bad that was before the classic double-expletive line from "Snakes on a Plane"!

I've always watched Channel 5 because my parents watched it in the a.m. with the Today Show. I still watch the Today Show pretty religiously. I have Channel 5 on in the a.m....love the snarky Brendan Higgins! However, that's the only time I watch local news. I don't watch during the day or even in the evening. I rarely watch the national news. At 10, if I'm not watching tivo'd shows, I'm watching Jon Stewart. I figured out that the news at 10 is pretty much the same news at 6 a.m. No need to watch both.
I do like flipping channels during ice storms just to see those guys out there. From North Dallas to Fort Worth to Weatherford to Denton, those guys are everywhere! Brett Johnson is my favorite, then Scott Gordon. I also love to watch the day-before-Thanksgiving reporting from DFW. I'll flip channels for that too. Just love watching all those people visiting family. Very heartwarming.
