I don't know about North Dallas but Plano schools perform better than Coppell. I am not saying that it's not a desireable town, just that things are not as rosy as people desribe here. I lived there for 18 months so I have first hand experience.

Sorry but Moderator cut: see comment living somewhere 18 months does not make you the expert. I've lived here 16 years and sold hundred of houses in the area. Moderator cut: see comment

I've lived in Coppell for 20 years, have triplets in the high school. Forget about drilling; it's a non-issue. I've never heard a word about it, and I've only seen 1 drill on the way to Grapevine. BTW, there's no eveidence that drilling causes cancer, but I understand the scare tactics used in other areas of the country. But that's another post.

This is a wonderful town, as far as Texas goes. The teachers are available, caring, and there is a push toward excellence. My children (all 15) love it here. If your children are musical, the band in the high school is one of the top in Texas, but extremely expensive and demanding.

The best housing deals are in Northlake Woodlands. They are older (built in the 80s) but many are updated. It is a retail bonanza, with shopping centers all over. There are probably 5 malls within 20 minutes. That may not matter to you now, but in the summer here you have 2 choices if you want to leave your house; go to a mall, or a movie.

The "industrial" area in Coppell is newish and very clean and tidy. Lots of offices woven in the mix.
If I could say one 'con' about Coppell, it would be that it can get a little bland and sterile. Then you head to Deep Ellum for a dose of 'cool' before you drive home.

I understand people with financial interest trying to paint their towns greener than they are but when I look at MLS than I don't see Coppell selling better than Southlake, Lakewood, West Plano or any other upper middle class town. There are many many homes with price reduction and more than few months on market like rest of the DFW even when inventory is low.
