but I live here anyway because of family problems.
I used to live in socal, where the weather is nice and people know how to drive. They yield to pedestrians. They use turn signals.
Around here (D/FW Metroplex), most of the freeways are under construction, and some of the construction is specially to charge you money to drive on the road! It's like the 91 but this is going to be everywhere in D/FW.
People drive more aggressively in the metroplex than in Southern California. You people tailgate and change lanes without signaling. Just last week, I had to get off I-30 on the shoulder because some guy was tailgating me so close it looked like the driver was sitting in my back seat! I have traction control and can come to a quick stop half on concrete and half on gravel/grass.
People drive more aggressively in NYC, but it's in the form of honking and tailgating, but the speeds are generally so low (5 mph) that it doesn't matter! It's fun to honk! It's all part of the game. Crashes are rare because the traffic moves so slowly, despite the most aggressive driving I've ever observed.
There are 6 million people in the metroplex. Arlington has 300,000 people, right in the middle of it, including some big-time destinations like baseball and 6 flags, and yet there's no one single city bus or train. What is wrong with this idiodic city? There are plenty of poor people (including me) who would love to take the bus somewhere. Trains are even nicer.
I rode all the trains in Dallas, just for fun. People use it! "Build it and they will come" is true. Why is it that only ghetto neighboorhoods in Dallas get train service or at least a bus? I never rode the bus in socal but poorer people did. It gives them a ride so they can work or whatever.
Why can't you people obey the sign on southbound I-35 at the Red River that says "Welcome to Texas, Drive Friendly!"
It's hotter than hell, humid, and hundreds and hundreds of miles from a beach or mountains. Moderator cut: 0ff-Topic for this thread and forum Is Texas basically like the Southeast but without the cooler wetter weather?
What do people do for fun here since life sucks so hard in this god-forsaken state?
I feel ya, more importantly I wouldn't let it get to you. I live in the Temple/ Killeen metroplex just north of Austin which has about 450,000 and people don't know what a stop sign is sometimes. Due to the population growth it seems like theres traffic here all the time.

maybe it just you . maybe your putting off a I dont want to be here vibe so I,m going to complain about everything and tell you how superior where I came is attuide . Even thou there are anumber of people from CA who themselves swear they would never go back
I've run across just as many tailgaters and people who dont signal in southern California as I have here in Texas. Theres always going to be people like that on the road anywhere you go. My suggestion to you is if youre so unhappy here in Texas then just leave if you like SoCal so much better. Thats certainly better than coming to this forum and whining to everybody about it.
Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. I mean the Metroplex is FULL of transplants...namely from California...more specifically Southern California. Seriously, I couldn't throw a rock in Dallas without hitting a transplant.
If the State of TEXAS deported every American, Texas would be a less crowded and a more peaceful place.

I grew up here in Southwest Fort Worth.... I swear to you, I went to High School with AT LEAST 20% of my classmates being from Cali. Hell, I even went out with a Cali girl then.
They're everywhere. Even bringing their businesses here (Trader Joes, In N Out, Carl Jr's....)
You hate Texas. Do you want a cookie? I didn't even bother reading your many complaints because I'm sure they're the exact same things all you cool kids from cali complain about. I've never understood why people come to a relocation forum to rant about how much they hate they place they relocated to. Moderator cut: inappropriate Have a nice day.

LOL As I was reading your post, I just had to laugh. I kept thinking, well, don't sugar coat it there, hon. Then I wanted to say find a quarter and call someone who cares. But I realize this has to be quite a major adjustment on your part and one you don't seem to be able to have a choice in at the moment. So it boils down to the fact you are here even though you wish you weren't, so the next thing for you to figure out is how you are going to cope with the situation. It might make you feel better for a brief period of time to be able to vent your displeasure in various ways, one being this rant you just posted, but you know that's not going to make it better for you and you going to have to learn how to cope with the situation. I think if you put your mind to it, you will be able to adapt to where you are not just totally miserable until you are able to return to SoCal or another place of your choosing.
I will say, for starters there is absolutely no sense in going to a new place and griping because the climate is different from the climate you left, or the public transportation is not what you had where you can from, etc., the list could go on and on, but it's just damn futile to do this. It is what it is here and you can either go with the flow and be happy or gripe about everything you don't like and be miserable the entire time you spend your 'sentence' here. It's your choice.
Oh BTW, as to the drivers here, I take it when you refer to 'you drivers' you are implying Texan drivers. This is too funny. Now I don't know about how all Texans were brought up to drive, but I was taught to drive with courtesy and manners and all the kids I grew up with were taught the same. My Daddy would have jerked me out from under that wheel so fast my head would still be spinning if I had pulled some of the stunts that I see people do all the time now. I taught my daughter to drive with courtesy and manners even though at that time I was already starting to succumb to the old adage if you can't beat them, join them. I watched myself when she was with me so I wouldn't be a bad influence on her, but let me tell you, it's gets pretty damn tough to keep treating other drivers like you want to be treated when there are so many a**holes out there that you have to put up with day in and day out. So even though I will still stop and let someone in traffic, do I do it every time? No. Sometimes I think, WTH, no one let me in last time, so p*ss on it. But thank God, it still makes me feel bad to do it, so at least for a while I go back to being more friendly. But belligerence breeds belligerence and you see what it gets us and none of us are immune to it and we all pay the price for it.
I come from a long line of Texans and Texas is all I know. I do have enough sense to realize though that it could (rather, should) have quite a culture shock for newcomers. I honestly don't have a clue as to how I would feel about Texas if I were moving here from another place, but that's something I will never know. But I do know one thing for sure, if I ever did move somewhere else, I would know to keep my mouth shut about how we did it back in Texas or how it is back in Texas. Yikes! I've heard enough of that crap (we did it like this back in _____, or I worked for $100.00 an hour back in _____, here I'm only making $20.00 an hour) to know that just turns the natives off. I seriously have a hard time understanding how some people don't seem to have a clue as to why the natives don't give a rat's a** about constant complaining and how 'it was done' back in ______.
Maybe you'll get lucky and even though your stay might not be sweet, hopefully it'll be short.

Lonestar... After your complaints about the great state of Texas, you have no right to have that username. Moderator cut: inappropriate
Also, you hate Texas because of the weather and the traffic? That is so stupid!
You can't blame Texas for the heat because it is the mother-nature that does it. For the traffic part, I'll bet you that many of these drivers that you're complaining about moved to Texas within 10 years.
