Hey All,

I've been a reader of this forum for a long time, and value y'alls expertise and wisdom.

My situation:
Currently, I live at an apartment on Renner Rd & G. Bush. They just raised my rent from $850/month to $1000/month when a new company bought the apartment!

Because of that, (and being tired of being in apartments in general), I'm considering buying a home near UTD. I dont go to school there, but I work very close (635&75).

What are good areas to look at?
Does it have a high resale value?
I want to get a room mate, depending on the area you recommend, what are good rent rates?
Anyone have experience with this type of thing?
Are there better areas to buy a house? (near 75&635)

I'm single, male 26 BTW.

thank you very much for your time. If you need more details just ask

I'd start by looking just east of the campus - it seems as if a fair number of the house/room rentals advertised at UTD are in that area, rather than the McCallum area west of campus that dominates the apartment market for UTD. If it's within walking distance of UTD, you should easily be able to land a grad student renter also sick of apartment life.

Life will be a snoozefest for a 20-something single guy in that area. But maybe that's what you're looking for.

If you're shopping among the rental stock, you should have no problem flipping it to someone else in a few years - the university isn't going anywhere (except up ).

Near UTD, while I know nothing of your budget or the current values, you could look at the Canyon Creek Country Club area, just east of UTD. Older homes, but nice. (If I remember correctly, Roger Staubach lived in the neighborhood when he was a Cowboy.)

For a roomie, UTD is probably your best bet.

For a different area though, you could consider some of the neighborhoods around Richardson Square. (Beltline/Plano Road)
