I am looking to buy a home in the spring of 2008. Having only lived in Dallas for about 10 months, I need advice in finding the right location(s). My work is located in downtown Dallas and right now I commute from Plano. Price range is 200-250K and desired size is 3-4 bed and at least 2 baths. I have an elderly parent who will be moving in with me, although she does still drive and get around really well. It is just me and my Mom and our pets (cat and dog), so school district is important but just for resale. I would like to find a shorter commute but don't know any areas beyond Plano, Richardson, Frisco, and Wylie. Can anyone suggest some good communities I could check out? Thanks!

Search 75206 and 75214 -- you may not find 4 bedrooms in that range (most likely 2) but you will be very close to work and you will make a lot of money on your house

Default Thanks for the Info

I had heard of the Lakewood area but was concerned about safety. I will have to search some properties on the MLS, so I can drive by them.

Richardson has always been real good to their elderly folks.

I have lived in Lakewood all my life and never been a victim of crime there (I was mugged in Washington DC) I also hang out at Fair Park, Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville, Downtown etc.. never had a problem. Doesn't mean you don't keep your eyes open - but a lot of it has to do with not freaking out when you meet people who are different than you..

Also our area has the strongest neighborhood associations in Dallas and lots of people know each other, are related or grew up together. We have many people who stay home all day (retired, SAHMs, home-businesses, artist types etc) so there is always someone watching. If anything we may have a bit of a busy-body / gossip problem!

BTW Ridgewood Park has great programs for the retired at the Ridgewood/Belcher Recreation Center 6818 Fisher
