Im curently looking outside of my state, Florida to promote my business. as most people here use blinds and shades. Is Dallas and Atlanta small business friendly, do a lot of people use drapes, what other cities would you suggest other than the ones mentioned?

My gut says Savannah - Old South for days - drapery heaven! Seriously.

Savannah perhaps, but there is nothing like the Design District in Dallas in the rest of the South.

I would say Atlanta- more similar to Savannah than Dallas is ( by a long shot) - and a rather large metro area to drum up new clients. My gut says it may be hard for an "outsider" to break into the Savannah interior decorator scene. I'm guessing a lot of your business comes from interior decorator referals?

Atlanta hosts one of the major Home Decor markets (to the trade) in the US each January & July so it is definitely known for decor.

Thanks for the info guys. So it may be hard to break into the Savannah's decorating market. Are the locals cliquey? Savannah would appeal to as I like turn of the century interiors as well as modern designs. My cousin suggested new York where she lives. But it's too expensive, also my gut feeling tells me that it's very competitive up there.

Dallas is clearly best overal but not for your business, we saw more shutters than drapery when looking to buy in Dallas a year plus ago. Good luck in Savannah

Easy, follow the money.
Which of these cities generates more new jobs and which has a higher median income?

Follow the money and I am sure there will be enough of a customer base out there.

Welcome to the Miami Design District

I second the suggestions for Savannah. Talk about inspiration for your art!

It makes sence. The job growth seemed to be pointing in Texas, NC and a few Midwestern cities. I like the idea of researching Texas, but from the previous post, shutters seemed to be more popular.
