Hi all!

Can anyone tell me about triathlons and 5-10k's in the area? What are your favorite events? Any links?

Thanks!

Run On! and Luke's Locker host registration for most events. They list those events on their websites. There are pretty much 5K's and 10K's throughout the year. The events in the summer down at White Rock Lake produced by Thruston Racing (I haven't kept up, maybe it's changed) start at 7 a.m. or so due to the heat.

My favorite race is the Turkey Trot. There are three mile and eight mile events. Only the eight mile is timed via chip and is competitive. The three mile is packed and unless you're right at the start line, it's hard to get a good time/pace going. However, it's a great tradition for many families and friends and a fine way to start Thanksgiving Day (as the YMCA says...). Oodles of non-race walkers.

Competitive race-wise, I prefer the races that take place just north of downtown. Some races start on McKinney, others start at Reverchon Park or close by off Turtle Creek. The Katy Trail 5K is also a good one. I train at White Rock so even though it might make sense to lean toward races there, I enjoy a change of scenery.

I haven't done any races in Tarrant County but there are probably some good ones to look into over there.

The Tom Landry Center at Baylor does a good triathlon. My brother did that event.

Default Thank you

Thank you all for your replies. The Turkey trot looks like something the whole family can do. that is great. I will look into those sites some more.
Here in Tucson, they have a club call tucson tri-girls and they train together. Do they have something similar there?
Thanks again!

In FW they have the Cowtown Marathon. Like other posters said check out RunOn or Luke's Locker.

As for running clubs, I know there is one in Flower Mound. I've got a couple of friends who run with that one.

Assuming if you are into triathlons - you are at least a part-time cyclist.... there's the Hotter'n'Hell that is held every August. VERY well organized ride/race (professionals even turn out for the race portion). I've only had the time to train/ride it once, but did 101.2 miles in 4hr 50min (20.9mph avg), which I was very happy with considering I only trained seriously for 3 month.
