I'd do this:
A. Get a pro to your house for a one time full-Montey chemical treatment.
1. You want to kill all ants in the house - carpets, rugs, in cabinets, in walls etc. AND just outside your home.
2. Pay the pro $10/15 extra bucks tip money to flag any mounds outside.
2.1. Pile Amdro around the mounds the pro identifies.
3. You need an array of chems sprayed liberally to kill roaches, silverfish, spiders, moths, and ants not just ants.
All the nasty creepies will come inside looking for heat and food as it cools.

B. Only after that would I begin a more Eco friendly regimen.

My mom used to set out paper plates with borax and lye soap IIRC that seemed to work very well. I'll hit her up for details later.

ETA why is everyone mentioning Termidor? Isn't it a termite treatment? I dunno.

ETA II - OP careful with DE breathing DE dust, say because of wind, is a big no no as in possibly a fatal no no.

Is/was...Somewhere along the long someone discovered it work incredibly, and I mean INCREDIBLY well on ants (although maybe not all species, see FAQ provides a list). Carpenter ants was my issue. They aren't anymore.

And oh by the way, anyone who tells you Spring Ants, or an Ant in your home in perfectly normal is dead wrong.

here is a link to FAQ:

I should mention, some states require a license to purchase Termidor. I live in one of those states, but yet I somehow got my grubby little hands on the concentrate!!!

This always works for me. They key is to do it every spring before the ants get inside. However, there are ways to use essential oils to get rid of an existing infestation or even to kill the next. Here is a quick resource for anyone interested in getting rid of them naturally:
