Why would Red Bird and S Loop 12 be more inner city than central Dallas when they would be further from downtown than central Dallas?

Honestly, I think that all of South Dallas is naturally nice looking with the hills and thick trees. Isn't it just a matter of the city taking care of the area and the people?

Because "inner city" is no longer necessarily codependent with the center of a city like it was in the younger days of American cities. Nowadays, you say inner city and people are going to think of the urban, sometimes slummy areas of a city where minorities tend to dominate the population.
Now, if you're referring to the middle of a city then call it the "central area" or "urban core".

And I just want to point out to all Dallasites that I have nothing against South Dallas. It's actually the area of the city that I'm most fond of. Family, friends, and my favorite restaurant call the area home.

new2sa U Texans sure do refer to most things differently. Cause out here in Cali I don't want any parts of the inner city which translates to the hood! Our inner city has gang problems and murders galore. When the post said it was pics of the inner city I was expecting to see dilapidated homes and graffiti on walls. I had to lol.

Thanks for the great pics. These and those from other posters. I'll be heading down you guy's way soon, and I'm happy, and surprised to see such beautiful areas. Not what I was expecting. YAY!

I guess inner city carries a different definition for different folks. I have always considered innercity anything inside 635/loop 12. The are both great looking areas and crummy looking areas. Highland Park is considered inner city to me. The West Dallas housing projects are also in the inner city.

I've been hearing that is starting to change especially with gas prices starting to rise. People can't really afford to commute 30+ miles back and forth to work anymore. So the demand for inner city housing is on the rise. Should be interesting to see what happens to south dallas over the years. I hope they plow it down.
