Moving to Rice w/in a year..any info?
I'll be relocating to the Rice area w/in the next year. Any info on churches, public and private schools, local hospitals? Anyone know of any Quaker meetings in the area?
Any advice or info is appreciated. I've never lived anywhere but SW Mo so it's a big adventure for me.

Looks like Rice, TX is near Corsicana, so I don't think it's in the wrong forum. Rice the university is in Houston.
The closest Quaker meeting is in Dallas. I've only been once since we moved here a year ago, and I was surprised how small it was considering the population of the area. Our small meeting back in Virginia was bigger, and it was in a semi-rural area.
The website for the Dallas meeting is Dallas Monthly Meeting of Friends

The Religious Society of Friends, aka Quakers, come together in what is known as a meeting, not a service. The place of the meeting is known as the meetinghouse. In most meetings here in the US, it's "unprogrammed", where there's no "minister" or leader.
There isn't a large concentration of Quakers anywhere in TX.

Guess I've been pretty spoiled since I live right across the street from my Quaker meeting. There's very few here in MO, either.
I'm interested mainly in how the schools are, COL, things to do, etc.
any info is appreciated!

Wow, tiny place. Two schools - Elementary and high school which starts at 6th grade. Total number of kids in the whole district 677. Low income percentage 60.27%. Both schools ranked Academically Acceptable which is mediocre. My guess it's mostly a poor rural area.

Schools in Rice are good. The high school is only a few years old. Rice has very little in the way of shopping. Pop. around 500. Corsicana is 10 minutes south, and Ennis is 10 minutes north, Both are around 25,000 with good shopping, restaurants, ect. Dallas is 40 minutes north with everything you could ever want.(and to much more)

I prefer small towns or no town if I could live in the country. I currently live in a town of around 600 and the nearest bigger town is 13k.
I'll be looking for work at some of the nearest hospitals. Would prefer not to work in Dallas unless I just have to, at least not for now.

Corsicana and Ennis Hospitals are always looking for people. Corsicana is building a new doctors complex at the Hospital starting to open now.
There are plenty of towns in the area with around 500 to 800 pop.
Blooming Grove 15 miles west of Corsicana on Hwy. 22 has Exemplary Campus status. and more country feel not being right off the interstate. As due others. You may want to look around before setting on Rice.
