Actually Panthers, Cougars and Pumas are all the same animal. The florida panther is a particular population set. I hear the cougars like to hang around Legacy and the tollway though!

They just showed a bobcat on channel 8 news last night roaming the streets. I don't remember what suburb it was in, though.

I saw that too, and it was Plano, LOL
Is a bobcat a wannabe cougar? Did they have an escapee from the daycare near Martini Park?

couger
Mountain lion, puma and panther are all the same thing. Florida does have a sub species of this that is a little smaller. Texas has six types of cats. Actually only five, the ringtail cat is not a cat at all, Puma, bobcat, Margay, Jaguarundi, Jaguar, and ocelot. The first two are very common even in town. I've actaully seen more cougers around McKinney then deer. The largiest and last Jaguar in texas was killed close to Goldwaith years ago but they are making a come back. Check out the TP&W web page and look up black bear spottings. They are becoming more common just east of Dallas. One was hit by a truck on I20 not long ago. No known grizzly bear has ever been documented in Texas but a skull was found in the red river.

For those still reading this. I have seen a mountain lion just a short drive east of dallas on the south end of Lake Tawakoni. I saw it while bow hunting for deer last week. I had the great fortune of watching this animal and two doe in a showoff of mother nature. The two doe were protecting two fawn from the lion. I watch the dramatic display from 30yrds away in a tree stand. Stuned by what I was watching I never raised my bow (glad I didnt it was worth it). The following week I returned to hunt and had really not thought much about the cat any more until that evening while leaving the woods, he decided to leave his hiding area right in front of me. I was no more than 10ft from the mountain lion as it charged out of the brush it had hunkered down in for the rain that had rolled in. So yes they are in the area and what a beautiful cat they are, but that close is a little to close for me!

We have a 700 acre ranch near Gause TX, about 10 miles West of Hearne. We have had the ranch since '95 and have had multiple 'panther' sitings by family members and guests. Always described as dark brown with a long tail, about 3 times the size of a bobcat. Latest siting was yesterday evening, near a large tank with thick woods surrounding it, 2 of the 'panthers' were in the middle of the trail when driving up in an ATV, they bounded off. Only 30 feet away....had a very good look at them. Didn't look like a cougar or a bobcat in the face. Other folks in the area say they have seen them as well. Will post if we can ever get a photo.
