After a six-year hiatus, we are now dog owners again. We adopted a skinny little 4 lb. Yorkie/Chi mix, male, about a year old. He was pulled from a hoarder who had more than 100 dogs. However, his spirit is exuberant, and he is into everything! Anyway, we need a great vet. We are in Richardson, but we would not mind a drive for a really good vet/clinic. Many thanks.

We have three small bichons (11lb, 10 lbs and 6 lbs) and take them to a vet named Maxwell in Far N. Dallas. His clinic is in a shopping center on Frankfort just east of the NDT. It is in a center on the NE corner of this intersection. We moved from Houston and have used him with success for about 2 years.

When we lived in that area, we used him for our cat. Nice guy, and apparently a good vet, too.

We moved to Allen approx. 4 yrs. ago. After several vets we fianlly found one I would highly recommend. His name is Dr. Ted Staph located in Plano. It's called High Point Animal Hospital. I beleive it is located on the corner of ALma and Spring Creek.

Any recommendations for a caring, competent vet in the Park Central area/Preston Rd corridor slightly to the west? We have 2 40-50 lbs mixed breed rescues who are used to extra TLC.

I moved here from Houston and will add there are some incredible vet facilities in Houston. Texas A&M vet school grads are highly competent vets. There is a vet hospital in Bellaire that can do surgery's on dogs or cats that most vets wouldn't dream of tackling...I suspect there is a similar facility here in DFW but do not know specifics yet... you can spend as much on pets as kids and get great help with them if that is your priority.

I'm in west Richardson and I use Arapaho Road Animal Clinic for my dog and 2 cats; they've taken great care of them and their receptionist is the absolute sweetest, kindest person on earth. The staff there are terrific. I highly recommend it. They're even open on Saturday mornings.

Default Campbell Rd and Jupiter

I lived here "Creekbend Estates" 1990-2005. I was 64YO when I got to be a K-9 mom. He took care of my bichon frise/westie and my toy poodle. He turned out to be right. He insisted that I keep up my expensive kennel training with my dogs. I didn't pay any attention to him. I do now with my current poodle here in Montgomery County Maryland. Just never understood back then. Sometimes love of companion animal clouds parenting and I can kill my dogs with kindness.

I add this. I recently took basic training again and the philosophy has changed. Back then it was without treats. Today it's all about treats. I'm not sure how Dr. Carter's practice preaches today. In fact, as I write this I will ask my current vet about all this because it's new since 2004 all over the USA.

Above all, you can kill your own dog with kindness. Consistency is the important rule.
