I'm very sorry on behalf of all Highland Parkers. Those were horrible things to say and do.

Yep, they were. It showed me a very ugly side of a place I didn't have much use for before and definitely don't have any use for now. I won't even drive through the Park Cities unless I have to. I don't suppose HP/UP will ever have a chance to redeem itself in my eyes since I just won't go there.

Yeah here are a few samples of what we heard at SMU:
"You went to Woodrow, that n****r, school?"
"I'm from Highland Park - it's the best". (heard that one the first day)
"She went to Woodrow (feigning vomiting)?"
"How did you get into SMU?"
"Why do you live at home, can't you afford to live on campus?" (I only lived at home one semester).
Seeing our class picture "You must have had busing at your school" and
"look at all the n****rs and s***s!"
In a Real Estate classroom when I was talking about the 'new' Munger Place Historic District "You grew up in East Dallas? Aren't there a lot of minorities over there?"
OK, I could go on but there was also the time when they were going to play a black DISD high school and they all dressed in black trash bags for the pep rally -- and used to be common that they would throw pennies to the other side and chant "We've got money, yes we do" at football games (the last two told to me by a former HP cheerleader who was disgusted and moved to E. Dallas in one of my properties).

High school kids are stupid. No doubt about it. They'll learn their lessons.
Don't dismiss these people based upon where they live. It would be like... labeling someone poor because they went to a DISD school.

Well there are certainly nice people from HP and some who grow and learn but then I still run into the ones who really believe that if you don't live in HP it's because you can't afford it, etc. I remember I recently had one start quizzing me on French wines to try to put me into my supposed lower place on the totem pole. I'm not particularly interested in Bordeaux and Burgundy and there are so many houses, but I found myself falling right into his trap. There's no way you will be able to convince them that you are their equal. I just told him I preferred Italian wines and said good-bye, leaving my knowledge of Champagne and Sancerre unexposed.

Nobody is dismissing them because of where they live. They're dismissing them because of their outrageous and disgusting behavior.

Ha..I have learned to deal with them - they taught me a lot of good lessons. It's just very oppresive living with that type of mentality from day to day. Also it causes you to lose sight of your own self-worth and happiness. It is good for hard-chargers who want to step on others on the way to the top, I suppose.

I've lived around rich people and I've lived among very poor people. I can tell you there's prejudice on all sides. You will also find good people in all income groups, because that has nothing to do with how much money they have. It is all about personal values.
