We have some prime pieces of land here in Plano for ones who can afford.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Max budget is 600k. Not looking to spend it all on land then build ontop of it. I have seen several towns suggested- are these all good school systems? Are there towns to avoid in terms of school districts?

I would avoid Irving, Fort worth, Dallas, Mesquite school districts. I would be very selective about which specific schools are serving the new house in Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Lewisville, Carrollton, Hurst, Euless, Bedford school districts. Some of the mediocre school districts have pockets of good schools, some of the good school districts still have poor performing schools.

Almost all districts north of Dallas are fairly good!

To get at least an acre of land, within 1 hour of DFW, at $600k, I'd recommend looking at these cities:
Argyle
Justin
Haslet
Saginaw
Boyd
Paradise
Denton

Parker has 1 acre minimum lots (and South Fork Ranch).

Lucas has many acreage sized lots.

Murphy has a few 1 acre lots.

At your price point, will be difficult to get acreage, schools, and distance. The areas with good schools that are generally known for larger lots are:
Colleyville
Heath
Murphy
Parker
Lucas
Fairview
Richardson - Northwood Hills neighborhood

You may just want to start there & see if anything jumps out at you. These are going to be more along the lines of 1/2 acre lots - smaller than you are used to but bigger than the .15-.2 acre "postage stamp" lots you saw while in Dallas.

Southlake, Colleyville, and Keller would be good places to look for $600k with 1+ acres (probably in reverse order of how many you'll find).

My friend here in McKinney has her home on an acre in Stonebridge. There are a few. Also Prosper has acreage. Both good school districts.

Murphy and Parker still have reasonable parcels.
