My wife and I have jobs that split us between Downtown Dallas, Waxahatchie and Greenville. We wanted to live somewhere inbetween where schools are good and commute split up.

Originally considered Heath, but did not like the schools as not much diversity. Sunnyvale ISD has about 20% asian, with mix of white/hispanic, and some black, plus rated exemplary.

We are somewhat concerned about lifestyle for our kids in Sunnyvale i.e. don't see any options for swimming lessons, martial arts, or other out of school activities for kids (who are 4 and 5 years old). Seems like have to drive 5-10 miles to mesquite or garland for anything at all as far as activities.

What would you do in this situation based on schools, commute, and kids activity concerns?

Look forward to your opinions.

Sunnyvale is only recently a non-rural community. Until just a few years ago, the city required acre lots for all homes. That's also why there is not much diversity there, too. Everyone goes into Mesquite and Garland for everything! For the commutes you need, that's about your best option.

Heath is a very nice community and the Rockwall schools offer more than Sunnyvale simply because they are larger. But the drive to downtown and Waxahachie would be very long...

Why not just move to Lakewood (East Dallas)? Plus, whoever is working downtown will be close to the kids if there's an emergency. Tons of activities and great elementary schools.

From out reading and research, Sunnyvale ISD is much more diverse than Rockwall ISD. Sunnyvale has 20% asian population, and same percent in elementary school. In Rockwall, mostly white+hispanic - very few other races represented.

We don't know about Lakewood - prob because very far from greenville, will take a look though. thanks!

If you want diversity, look at Garland schools...

Why not live near work of spouse that has better job and try to find a new job for the other spouse in a nearby area? I know it's difficult but so is your current situation.

We have been trying to move jobs for a year, but with no luck. So decided to pull the trigger on a house in Sunnyvale that is within 30 miles of both of our jobs, so both commutes are manageable.

Keep trying, makes life less complicated if at least one parent works from or near home.
